WHAT YOU’LL DO

Under the direction of the Community College Police chain of command, positions in this classification are currently attending or will attend California Police Officer Standard Training (P.O.S.T) Academy. Trainees undergo comprehensive academy instruction and training in law enforcement and police methodology, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to become eligible for the position of Community College Police Officer I.

If selected, you will be required to attend and successfully complete the P.O.S.T. Academy conducted by the Ventura County Sheriff's Office. The academy training will be paid by VCCCD. Please note that the position is not permanent and does not include benefits during the P.O.S.T Academy. Upon successful completion of the P.O.S.T. Academy, you will be eligible for placement in a permanent Community College Police Officer I position, with a salary range of $5,884 to $8,118 per month and all associated benefits.

This recruitment is being conducted to establish a list of eligible candidates that will be used to fill district-wide, current and upcoming, temporary and regular vacancies for the duration of the list, not to exceed one year.

WHERE YOU’LL WORK
After completion of the academy, you may be assigned as a Community College Police Officer I to any of the three campuses, which include Ventura College, Oxnard College, or Moorpark College.

Representative Duties

Attends and actively participates in a P.O.S.T. certified basic law enforcement training academy full-time, and actively participates in all required coursework, training and instruction as required for successful completion of and graduation from the academy. E

Actively participates in a rigorous academic and outdoor physical training program. Areas of instruction include, but are not limited to: basic principles of patrol procedures and criminal investigation; arrest, search, and seizure as applied to college police operations; police investigation including the collection of evidence, interviewing and interrogation of witnesses, follow-up and case preparation of reports as used by law enforcement; traffic procedures and patrol; report writing; firearms training and defensive tactics; safety in the operation and use of vehicles and equipment. Participates in ongoing training to support the development of community policing practices. E

Work collaboratively and professionally with faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, and ethnic communities. E

Demonstrate cultural humility, sensitivity, and equity-mindedness in working with individuals from diverse communities; model inclusive behaviors; and achieve equity in assignment-related outcomes. E

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Obtain valid California P.O.S.T. Basic Academy certificate

Pass a physical agility test

Obtain valid California driver's license upon employment

Obtain valid First Aid Certificate and CPR Certificates

Meet requirements of California Government Code Sections 1029, 1030, 1031 et seq.

Be at least 21 years of age

Pass a subjective background investigation to determine if the candidate meets department standards

Upon receiving conditional offer of employment, pass a medical and psychological examination and meet department standards

Successfully complete department field training

Pass polygraph examination

Supplemental Information

EXAMINATION AND SELECTION PROCESS

This is an examination open to the public and current district employees seeking a promotional opportunity. To ensure consideration, please submit your application materials by Wednesday, July 10, 2024. The next review of applications will be on Thursday, July 11, 2024.

The examination process may consist of any of the following components:

A) Written Test = Qualifying (pass/fail)
B) Technical Interview = 100% weighting on final score

PLEASE NOTE: All testing for this recruitment will be conducted remotely. Please see additional information regarding the test dates and location below.

WRITTEN TEST DATE RANGE AND LOCATION

Date Range: July 11 - July 15
Location: All candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be emailed a link to the test on July 11 and you will have until 11:59pm on July 15th to complete the exam. Please allocate 3 hours to complete this written exam. In order to participate in the written/performance test, you must have access to a computer and a reliable connection to the internet.

The candidates with the highest passing scores on the written/performance test will be invited to the technical interview.

Duration of work experience is calculated based off a standard 40 hour full-time work week. Part-time work experience will be prorated based off a standard 40 hour full-time work week. ELIGIBILITY LIST
Upon completion of the examination, the eligibility list will be compiled by combining the final examination score with applicable seniority and veteran's credits, if any. The candidates will be ranked according to their total score on the eligibility list. Certification will be made from the highest three ranks of the eligibility list. This eligibility list will be used to fill current vacancies for up to one year from the date of the technical interview.
