The Bereavement Services Coordinator is responsible for modeling the SBUH iCARE values of Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence. They are responsible to develop and deliver a program of bereavement support that is available to the bereaved family members of patients for at least one (1) year after the death of the patient. They will be the primary person planning, organizing, carrying out and evaluating all bereavement functions for the organization. As a team member of the Department of Spiritual Care, they will report to the Director of Spiritual Care. The Bereavement Services Coordinator is expected to establish collaborative relationships with interdisciplinary care teams, other professionals, and the community.
Duties of the Bereavement Services Coordinator may include but are not limited to the following:
- Maintain statistical data of Bereavement program
- Assess the needs of surviving friends and family
- Offer therapeutic grief and coping education to surviving friends and family.
- Collaborate with other spiritual, medical, and counseling professionals; such as Decedent Affairs, social services, child life, chaplaincy, clinical team and community resources
- Develop, chart/document and monitor bereavement plan of care
- Develop bereavement materials for correspondence to surviving friends and family for at least 1 year following the death of the patient
- Coordinate and facilitate bereavement support groups and activities
- Develop and coordinate bereavement training programs
- Engage in Code Lavenders and staff bereavement support
- Network and provide outreach in local community regarding grief and bereavement
- Plan, facilitate and manage all facets of an Annual Memorial Event
- Assist in other program areas and other activities assigned by the Director of Spiritual Care
- Recruit and supervise volunteers
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in theology, thanatology, counseling, or related field
- At least 2 years of experience working with bereaved adult and pediatric milieu individuals or groups in a healthcare setting
- Skilled in interpersonal relations, family dynamics, communication, empathy, organization, and problem-solving
- Knowledge and experience working with bereavement software
- Supervisory experience
- Working knowledge of major world cultural/religious end-of-life customs, ritual and practices
Preferred Qualifications:
- Skill and experience in officiating memorial services, funerals, wakes, etc
- Certification or eligible for certification within the 2 years of hire in grief counseling or bereavement support from a professional certifying organization such as ADEC, NBCC, AAGC, or other related organizations

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as - $75,000-$92,000.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBUH’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
In addition, all UUP positions have an additional $3,087 for location,
