La Salle University’s Department of Natural Sciences seeks a non-tenure track faculty member to teach in the Biology Program and to coordinate the anatomy and physiology courses. This faculty member will teach anatomy and physiology lecture and laboratory sections in a course sequence that primarily serves nursing and health-sciences majors and pre-medical and pre-health career-seeking students. The faculty member will also serve as the Anatomy and Physiology Coordinator, working with all instructors of anatomy and physiology sections to ensure consistency between sections and that necessary learning goals are achieved across the course sequence.
This position will be a 9 month faculty appointment with a 12 month secondary appointment as Anatomy & Physiology Coordinator. This faculty position is contingent on the incumbent serving in this Coordinator role.
Essential Duties
Teach in an anatomy and physiology (A&P) two-semester course sequence (lecture and lab) that serves primarily first-year nursing and health-sciences majors along with students interested in pursuing medical and health-related careers.
Teach related courses as needed by the department.
Coordinate other instructors teaching sections of A&P to ensure A&P courses are consistent, synchronized, and meeting the needs of the degree programs these courses serve.
Advise on the anatomy and physiology lecture and laboratory curriculum.
Coordinate with the laboratory technician to make sure the A&P labs are organized and set up.
Onboard, train, and support part-time instructors in the A&P program.
Maintain, promote, and practice laboratory safety in a laboratory class environment.
Secondary Responsibilities
Participate in the academic advising for students in the Biology program.
Attend Natural Sciences Department faculty meetings.
Participate in departmental and university endeavors (such as committees, recruitment events, attend graduation and university events, etc.).
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in Biology, Anatomy, Physiology, or a related field. A terminal degree in a field related to human anatomy and physiology (M.D., D.O., D.Pt) will also be considered.
Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of La Salle University.
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. in Biology, Anatomy, Physiology, or a related field is highly preferred.
Experience teaching biology and/or anatomy and physiology courses, particularly at the college-level.
Knowledge and experience teaching anatomy and physiology laboratory courses.
Ability to collaborate with a team of instructors to ensure consistency and synchronization between different course sections.
Demonstrated experience with innovative and effective teaching practices.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours
The job requires the ability to teach both a lecture and lab section of A&P and related biology courses. The job requires movement around the classroom or laboratory, and possibly lifting heavy objects such as anatomy models.
It may be necessary for the position to teach an evening class of A&P. No other unusual work hours are required.
