Title: Activity Instructor, Sports Reports to: DIRECTOR OF YOUTH SERVICES, PRINCE JOSHUA AVITTO COMMUNITY CENTER Location: 876 Schenck Avenue, Brooklyn NY 11207 Hours: Up to 10 hours/week; Non-Exempt Schedule: Early July - Mid August Salary: $19- $25/hr JOB SUMMARY: The Activity Instructor provides recreational/educational workshops and activities as a venue for self-development and expression through enrichment & project-based curricula in the after school program. MAJOR DUTIES: Help with recruitment and retention of program participants. Manages & prepare activities in all areas of the Physical Education. Conduct activities enriched with Literacy, History and other related academic subjects where applicable. Conduct activities enriched with all aspects for Wellness & Nutrition. Develop and/or follow a sequenced sports/fitness curriculum to include competition and/or exhibition Submit lesson/activity plans in advance. Plan and implement a culminating event, project or Olympics. Develop/implement quarterly service projects. Attend trainings on physical education curricula and follow up with utilization of technical assistance. Responsible for the setup, operation and clean-up of activities and the organization, inventory and storing of relevant supplies and equipment. Attend all staff meetings and staff development training sessions as specified. Guide program participants in examining choices, following directions and becoming involved in program activities. Develop and implement leagues and/or tournaments for basketball and a variety of other sports related activities. Responsible for the design and execution of incentive program. Perform other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree preferred with professional experience in the specified area of sports and fitness Excellent group facilitation skills Ability to work collaboratively Excellent verbal and written communication skills Experience working with youth Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based and/or youth development perspective.
