The State Highway Administration's (SHA) Office of Information Technology - Prince George’s and Frederick counties are currently recruiting for the Computer Information Services Specialist I position. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum qualifications listed below. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies in this classification.
Nature of Work: The main purpose of this position is to provide support for Information Technology and Telecommunications systems and services for District 3 and 7. This position will administer systems and services consist of computer systems management, local network systems management, and VOIP services so that employees have access to computer workstations, network services and devices so that they can perform their essential duties. This position is responsible for first level help desk support to the users within District 3 and 7 jurisdiction. They are also responsible for providing first line help desk support of microcomputer hardware and software . This position often includes responsibilities which serve as an extension of the Information Technology Division by providing first and rapid response to network outages or other IT emergencies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: One (1) year of experience responding to and resolving help desk calls from users of computers, or operating computer equipment for the purpose of data entry, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, database or other applications.
Notes:
1. Additional experience responding to and resolving help desk calls from users of computers, or operating computer equipment for the purpose of data entry, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, database or other applications may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. Nine credit hours in microcomputer applications at an accredited institution may be substituted for the required experience.
3. Completion of a certification program in computer repair, such as Microsoft A+ or an equivalent program, may be substituted for the required experience.
4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in Cyber and Information Systems classifications or Cyber and Information Systems specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
Special Requirements:
- Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the state of Maryland.
- This position is required to respond to emergency situations. Must be reachable and respond to cell phone calls after work hours.
