SUMMARY The primary purpose of the Coordinator, Department Publications position is to provide communications support to the Department of Gynecologic Oncology and Reproductive Medicine which includes management of publications and Web site development; project planning; and strategies to advance and promote the goals and activities of the Department.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Communications and Marketing
a.Works directly with the Department Chair and Administrator in the development of strategies, promotional plans, publications and other materials to promote the Department of Gynecologic Oncology and Reproductive Medicine goals and programs internally and externally.
b.Generates and implements ideas to facilitate ongoing communication strategies within the Department and between the Center, operating room and inpatient areas that conform to institutional vehicles, as well as editorial and graphic standards.
c.Serves as liaison to Division of Surgery publications staff and MD Anderson Communications Office, Marketing and Development departments to ensure communication strategies and campaigns are aligned.
d.Provides communication, document, memo, letter and report writing support to the Chair, Department Administrator and individual faculty and staff (as approved).
e.Establishes professional relationship with the Office of Physician Relations and Cancer Network to keep referring physicians and community at large informed about the Department, Center and its programs. Assists with promotion, communication and content development for the Gynecology Physicians Advisory Board.
Publications Management and Content Development
a.Coordinates the content, design, development and production of Department annual reports and newsletters.Conducts interviews, writes and edits articles. Demonstrates ability to write scientific articles or publications for lay audiences. Develops and maintains distribution lists (internal and external) to reach targeted audiences.
b.Collaborates with Communications Office, Medical Graphics and Photography to ensure the creation of quality design and production for print and broadcast materials.
c.Identifies need and develops content for various communications mediums (i.e., brochures, online distribution, etc.), including collaborating with the Communications Office on story ideas for news releases and organizational publications, to increase visibility of the Department, Center and its programs and faculty working with Communications for any materials intended for patients.
Website and Digital Maintenance
a.Collaborates with Communications Office for content and maintenance of internal and external Department Websites.
Four years experience in communications, writing or editing. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one year basis.
Preferred Experience:
Web site design/management, experience in writing and communication, critical thinking. Must be comfortable putting together powerpoints and presentations.
Work Schedule:
This position has a hybrid schedule which includes 2 days onsite per week.
