BASIC FUNCTION:
Support staff in the development of communication materials and multimedia products. Assist in the timely and accurate dissemination of information to District stakeholders and the community.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
The duties listed below are just the essential duties of this class. Support in the development and design of digital, web, and print marketing materials
Assist in the preparation and distribution of press releases
Provide both technical and editorial website support, updating content, and publishing news stories in social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn
Presentation and report development and design, including PowerPoint and Canva;
Copywriting and editing, including developing original content under direction and editing from multiple contributors;
Event planning and preparation
Coordinating special projects and community outreach
Create and update media talking points
Post updates to the department's Intranet
Creating and updating resource material
Interacting with other governmental and community-based organizations
Utilizing online metrics tools (such as Google Analytics) to report on statistics for websites, social media sites, email campaigns, and online advertising;
Assist with general administrative tasks as needed
INITIAL/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Applicants must currently be enrolled in an accredited college/university majoring in Public Relations, Political Science, Marketing, Communications, Journalism or related fields.
Recent graduates who have completed their degree in one of the above fields are also eligible to apply.
DMV – Valid CA Class C Driver’s License
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
Knowledge
Firm grasp of social media tools and platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.
Completed or working toward a college degree (junior level and up), preferably in a related field
(e.g., English, Marketing/Communications, Advertising or Public Relations)
Understanding of the basic principles of public relations and/or marketing
Must be computer literate (knowledge of word processing, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
Proficient in Canva, Adobe InDesign, Publisher, and Photoshop
Knowledge of HTML, website content management and graphic design
Developing/sharing videos via social media
Basic research and analysis
Skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Exceptional customer service & community engagement
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Demonstrates initiative and ability to work independently
Abilities
High level of computer literacy and ability to learn new technology quickly
