Position Description
Under general supervision, the Case Manager is responsible for supervising defendants' compliance with release conditions, providing services that minimize failures, and providing the courts with information to address noncompliance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Case Documentation: Maintains accurate case notes documenting supervision activities and contacts.
Defendant Release and Supervision: Informs newly released defendants about rules and conditions of release and establishes the defendant's acceptance and understanding of his or her obligations. Enforces conditions of release from the established obligations. Creates individualized supervision plans that help defendants comply with release conditions and continually monitors the defendant's ability to comply.
Vendor Oversight and Community Collaboration: Initiates, verifies and monitors the services defendants receive from vendors. Collaborates with personnel in criminal justice and human services agencies, representatives of the legal community, and others to achieve department goals.
Defendant Assessment and Case Management: Screens defendants to determine if they need support service referrals to facilitate compliance with release conditions or to address specific needs. Administers screening tests to defendants to detect substance use. Reviews drug test results and other reports to ascertain defendant activity and condition compliance.
Court Reporting: Apprises court about violations and formulates recommendations for sanctions or alternatives to incarceration as requested. Testifies in court when needed.
Reporting: Documents and maintains information the department needs to prepare monthly reports.
Customer Service: Responds to inquiries from defendants and the public about the pretrial process. Supports call center, monitoring unit and courts as needed.

Requirements
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Political Science, Counseling, or other closely related field from an accredited university or college or Bachelor's degree in any other field of study from an accredited university or college. AND One (1) year of full-time paid experience in a Criminal Justice setting.
OR
Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Political Science, Counseling, or other closely related field from an accredited university or college or Bachelor's degree in any other field of study from an accredited university or college. AND Two (2) years of volunteer experience in a Criminal Justice or Social Sciences setting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge about the local criminal justice system.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to organize tasks and set priorities.
Excellent documentation skills.
Ability to perform tasks in a fast paced environment.

Additional Requirements:
Valid driver's license (Texas upon hire).
Ability to obtain clearance based on a criminal history background check.
Required to present evidence of a TB skin test prior to employment. Documentation of yearly TB screen required.
Transportation: Personal transportation for use on the job.
Drug screening: Upon receiving a conditional offer of employment, all applicants are screened for the presence of illegal drugs.
Background Screening: Applicants for this position will be subject to a criminal background check that includes being fingerprinted. This applies to any position with network access to Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) or access to an area where CJIS is received, maintained or stored either manually or electronically (i.e. custodian, maintenance).
Automatic Disqualification:
Convictions, probation, or deferred adjudication for any Felony, and any Class A Misdemeanor.
Convictions, probation, or deferred adjudication for a Class B Misdemeanor, if within the previous 10 years.
Open arrest for any criminal offense (Felony or Misdemeanor).
Family Violence conviction.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
This position is based in an office environment, with close proximity to clients that are under our supervision. Exposure to dangerous or aggressive/adverse populations; instructs clients that are in jail with various security restrictions. Office climate can vary in temperature.
Physical demands of travel between office locations including the Criminal Justice Center and other buildings located in the downtown area. The physical demands associated with this job are minimal, with occasional lifting and moving of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. The role is predominantly sedentary, involving mainly sitting with occasional standing and walking.
Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
