Job Overview
The Budget and Coverage Analyst generates clinical research billing plans and Medicare Coverage Analyses (MCA) for all industry sponsored studies. They ensure budgeting/expense/coverage consistency across Georgetown University clinical trials documentation, including the protocol, informed consent(s), and budget and contract payment terms.
- Negotiate and compile will negotiate and compile clinical research budgets and review payment terms for clinical research projects - including unique and/or complex proposals, awards and contracts
- Provide insight and direction to post award analysts related to invoicing and managing clinical research awards at both Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC), MedStar Health Research Institute (MHRI), Georgetown-MedStar University Hospital (GUH), and other MedStar entities as appropriate - with a primary focus on clinical research funded by private industry funding sources, although other types may be assigned as needed.
- Consistently demonstrate support for compliance in the performance of job duties and responsibilities by: a) developing and maintaining knowledge of, and performing job functions in compliance with rules, regulation, policies and statutes; b) maintaining knowledge of compliance, performing job functions in compliance with applicable entities (MedStar Health Research Institute and/or Georgetown University) policies and procedures; and c) reporting compliance concerns in to immediate supervisor in an appropriate and timely manner.
- Review current business processes and continuously seek opportunities for improvement; successfully manage competing priorities to meet scientific center objectives; work closely - and coordinate activities - with applicable Contracts and Grants departments; effectively collaborate with multiple departments; and work in a team environment.
- Perform follow up regarding key processes which are critical to commercial clinical trial start up; and conduct for all commercial trials conducted at MGUH and MGMC.
Work Interactions
The Budget and Coverage analyst works in the Clinical Research Operations Office (CROO) and negotiates budgets for Oncology and Non-oncology clinical Trials.
They interact with full transparency with the Manager Clinical Trials Budget and Coverage Analysis and provide updates to Lombardi management at regular intervals or as needed.
Key points of interaction within the CROO are with the contract manager, invoice coordinators, as well as the study teams and principal investigators.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree related to health care or business.
- 5 to 7 years of experience in related field with 2 of those years in clinical trials budgets in a hospital, or university or an academic Medical Center setting
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with budgeting oncology or non-oncology clinical trials, Medicare coverage analysis, and research finance
- Experience with the Clinical Trials Management System (OnCore), including ability to input trials and budgets into the system
- Experience in Oncology

Salary Range
The expected pay range for this position is $66,783 to $126,720 per annum.
Georgetown University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity and external market pay for comparable jobs.
