The Region Landfill Manager position is responsible for overseeing and coordinating region landfill operations and employees to ensure that performance goals are met while maintaining compliance with local, state and federal regulations. Region Landfill Managers ensure the highest standards of environmental safety and environmental compliance are met while minimizing operational costs and maximizing productivity.
Responsibilities of Position:
- Oversee management of all regional landfill operations in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.
- Develop and maintain the operational business plan to include all program requirements, labor hours, cycle production costs and image.
- Ensure all regional landfills are maintained to meet requirements for government inspections.
- Work with Landfill Managers to establish production and quality control standards.
- Monitor and enforce quality and safety standards and ensure all compliance goals are met or exceeded.
- Develop budget and cost controls, and obtain data regarding types, quantities, specifications.
- Provide guidance for the development of landfills, including staffing requirements, facility needs, and tooling and equipment needs.
- Ensure all established cost, quality, and delivery commitments are met.
- Work with Landfill Managers to coordinate landfill activities with all other functions of the organization and suppliers to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines, and equipment.
- Work with Site, Area, and Director of Engineering to expand/improve landfills. This will include community involvement to build local support for the projects.
- Review production and operating reports and direct the resolution of operations and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
- Ensure proper performance of administrative activities associated with the effective management of the landfills, including compiling, storing, and retrieving production data for reports.
- Determine responsibilities of assigned organization and staff positions to accomplish business objectives.
- Train all organizational and staff positions to accomplish business objectives.
- Perform and conduct performance evaluations, monitor and track employee attendance, complete disciplinary actions/meetings and all other required documentation relating to performance management.
- Maintain proper records and files including all compliance and personnel records.
- Location assignment will depend on logistics, experience, and qualification of the candidates.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:
- Must be able to pass state EPA certification.
- Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) certification, preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to be able to communicate effectively and professionally with others.
- Computer skills; working knowledge of Windows/Microsoft applications.
- Excellent customer relations and personnel management skills.
- Must be able to read and understand landfill set grades using a surveyor’s instrument.
- Must be familiar with EPA requirements regarding landfill.
- Must have P & L experience, (analyze, advise and preparatory).
- Must demonstrate experience in problem solving, leadership, quality management, planning, organizing.
Additional Working Conditions/Aspects:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas.
- Exposure to residential and commercial waste.
- Ability to travel between offices, as required.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends and/or holidays.
- Good written and verbal communication skills to be able to communicate effectively and professionally with others.
- Must be available for 24-hour emergency calls.
- Legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must be able to produce satisfactory pre-employment drug test and background check results.
- Must be able to read and speak the English language well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, directions, traffic signs, signals, and safety training.
