Assists and supports the Assistant Director & License Clinician or Counselor, Wellness Center.
Education/Experience
At minimum, a Master’s degree in counseling, social work or psychology. Plus two years of experience working in a college or university student counseling center with an understanding of college student issues, developmental theories, and the college environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Maryland licensure required.
Knowledge/Skills/Ability
Knowledge and skills working with both traditional and non-traditional college students
Ability to provide support as a generalist with diverse students which may include underserved, neurodivergent, first generation and low-income populations.
Skill and interest in providing campus outreach programming and consultation
Expertise in assessment with a familiarity in self-injurious behavior preferred
Appreciation for the philosophy and functioning of an integrated Wellness Center that includes both health and counseling services
Demonstrate positive interpersonal skills; effective verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrate ability to work independently and to maintain confidentiality
Understanding of and commitment to abide by professional standards of practice and code of ethics for counseling or psychology
Ability to travel between campuses.
Understanding and demonstration of tele-mental health practices.
Physical Requirements
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Keyboarding, talking, hearing, repetitive motions. Close visual acuity. Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions. Requires physical abilities consistent with a busy office environment on a university campus. Daily work with computers, monitors, copy machines and other office equipment. Able to walk/run quickly to all areas on campus in response to emergency calls.
Essential Functions
Provide short-term individual and group counseling
Conduct intake interviews and develop treatment plans, including appropriate referrals
Provide as needed mental health consultations/check-ins.
Provide crisis assessment and intervention
Make appropriate referrals on and off campus and conduct necessary follow-up
Coordinate with Wellness Center staff to provide psychoeducational and wellness programs for students on topics such as sexual violence, substance abuse, depression, anxiety, relationship violence, and interpersonal issues
Work effectively and collaboratively with Wellness Center staff
Demonstrate a positive attitude as a representative of the Wellness Center, on campus and in the larger community
Engage in professional development
Participate in Wellness Center and campus wide committees/meetings
Assist with RA Training
Provide information at new student orientation about counseling on campus
Provide psychoeducational information to faculty, staff, and parents
Formulate, interpret, or enforce policies and procedures
