DEFINITION
To perform a variety of semi?skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment; lubricate and perform routine service work on diesel and gasoline?powered vehicles; maintain tires on the bus fleet; and perform related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from the Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor; receives technical guidance from journey?level mechanics. No supervision is exercised over others.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES ? Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
·Lubricate and oil buses and automobiles.
·Perform routine servicing and minor repair work on buses and automobiles.
·Check conditions of batteries, tires, lights, and horns.
·Identify any major or complex mechanical difficulty and report findings to the supervisor.
·Rotate and switch tires; repair flat tires on all equipment in the yard.
·Keep records of service operations.
·Assist mechanics as required.
·Replace broken windows in buses; replace seat covers in buses.
·Refuel buses and vehicles.
·Steam clean buses and vehicles.
·Repair and replace wiper blades.
·erform related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
·Techniques for lubricating buses and other automotive equipment.
·Type, grade, and use of standard fuels, lubricants, and tires.
·Principles of preventive maintenance.
·Basic principles of mechanical maintenance.
Ability to:
·Use tools and equipment common in lubricating tire repairing.
·Make service adjustments and minor repairs to buses and vehicles.
·Keep simple records.
·Follow oral and written instructions.
·Read and write at the level required for successful performance on the job.
·Indentify mechanical problems and communicate the problem to others.
·Physical capability sufficient to perform job tasks.
Experience and Education
Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade and one year of experience in the servicing of automotive.
License or Certificate
Possession of a valid California Class B Driver's license with Passenger endorsement, (Class A with a "P" endorsement is acceptable).

Any combination of education, training and/or experience equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade and one year of experience in the servicing of automotive.
