DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: The Human Resources Technician is the entry-level classification in this series. Incumbents perform a variety of technical duties and provide assistance to prospective and current employees. The Lead Human Resources Technician is the lead level classification. Incumbents participate in the day-to-day Human Resources Technician responsibilities and are responsible for training, assisting and providing work direction.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by college-level coursework in business administration, secretarial science, or a related field and three years of increasingly responsible secretarial or personnel-related experience.
Examination Procedures And Information
THE EXAMINATION: Exam Weight Supplemental Questions: Qualifying Performance Examination: 5 minute typing test at 30 net wpm: Qualifying Computer Skills Test: Qualifying Written Examination: 50% Qualifications Appraisal Interview: 50%
The supplemental questions to the application will be reviewed and rated for certification. These questions are required at the time of application and are qualifying.
An eligibility list will be established for successful candidates which will be used to fill substitute and regular positions during the life of the list.
Examinations and interviews held to create the eligible list will be conducted virtually, using different online/internet platforms that require video recording or conferencing capabilities, as well as access to a computer with an internet connection and basic Microsoft Office Suite Software.
The virtual performance examination and computer skills test is tentatively scheduled for the week of July 8th. The virtual written examination is tentatively scheduled for the week of July 15th. All who are successful with the written examination will be invited to the virtual qualifications appraisal interview (oral exam) which is tentatively scheduled for the week of July 29th. You will be notified via email, as indicated on your application, regarding your ability to participate in the testing process.

Job Responsibilities
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Process requisitions to complete employment, termination and payroll processes; calculate and approve salaries; assure accuracy of inputted data.
Input employee information into an assigned database; create identification numbers; process benefits orientation information; distribute and collect relevant documents.
Maintain and update a variety of reports and documents; generate letters and complete forms for verification of employment, EDD Response Forms, PARS distribution forms and separation forms; maintain a variety of reports, correspondence and registers regarding leaves of absence for certificated and classified employees as assigned by the position.
Oversee and assist with the organization of the certificated and classified professional growth programs; audit and update professional growth files; recommend column moves for certificated employees and professional growth payments for classified employees.
Process hiring activities for classified employees and athletic assistants; schedule interviews and appointments; interpret and explain District hiring policies and guidelines; establish and calculate start and probation dates; provide orientations regarding contract details and responsibilities; process and complete requisitions, fingerprint forms and other required documents.
Maintain seniority lists, personnel files, miscellaneous earnings, unemployment information, evaluations and other employee information of assigned employee groups; determine salary including longevity and shift differentials and forward to payroll for processing.
Audit and adjust longevity, step and shift differential increases as required; generate worksheets to determine adjustments.
Provide assistance with employee testing; score scantron tests; provide administrative support for oral interviews; prepare related documents; locate and request panelists.
Oversee the processing of substitutes; collaborate with school sites, teachers and Credentials Department to assure proper certification for long and short-term assignments; process related paperwork; coordinate substitutes for classified personnel to assure campus coverage; maintain school site substitute lists, preferences, exclusions and seniority.
Serve as a technical resource to staff, faculty and the public regarding Human Resources functions; respond to inquiries; explain and interpret laws, rules, regulations and contract language.
Perform a variety of clerical and secretarial duties related to the classified or certificated personnel function; greet and assist employees and visitors; route and screen visitors and calls; read and respond to emails as appropriate.
Receive and distribute mail as required.
Operate a variety of standard office equipment, including a computer and assigned software.
