The Associate Director will collaborate with campus partners to build a living, learning and work environment where students, faculty and staff can skillfully engage in constructive dialogue across difference. The Associate Director will introduce resources, tools, programs, and practices to promote a positive campus culture of open inquiry and to cultivate the conditions for thoughtful individual, intragroup and intergroup discourse across identities, power differentials and viewpoints. Through training, education and skill development, the Associate Director will enhance the campus community’s capacity to hold rich, respectful, and, at times, difficult conversations.
The Associate Director of Community Dialogue will support Yale University’s efforts to develop and implement practices that encourage constructive dialogue in campus programs and activities. Reporting jointly to the Director of Restorative Practices and to the Chief of Staff to the Secretary and Vice President for University Life, the Associate Director will lead trainings and facilitate processes to cultivate community, encourage and support constructive dialogue and respond restoratively to a broad range of campus conflict and harm.
With the support of the Restorative Practices team and the Office of the Secretary and Vice President for University Life, the Associate Director will assist schools, departments, programs and individual units in adapting constructive dialogue teaching tools and other related practices to the unique needs of their respective communities. The Associate Director will train students, faculty and staff in constructive dialogue modalities and other related practices. The Associate Director will work with the Restorative Practices team and the Office of the Secretary and Vice President for University Life to formulate online resources for students, faculty and staff seeking strategies, tools and practices in these areas.
The Associate Director will also assist in qualitative and quantitative program assessment and undertake other duties as assigned by the Director of Restorative Practices and the Chief of Staff to the Secretary and Vice President for University Life. Directs, monitors, and assesses needs and directs the application of resources of an administrative University office dealing with one or more major functional areas. 2. Directs and implements solutions to problems that are routine to complex in nature and that affect multiple functional areas of responsibility. 3. Plans and/or participates in planning University activities on a long-term basis to comply with University goals and objectives. 4. Establishes and implements consistent university-wide policies in multiple functional areas of responsibility. 5. Ensures that University office policies and procedures are in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and ordinances. 6. Develops and monitors goals and objectives for managerial and professional staff in compliance with University strategies. 7. Directs a staff of exempt and non-exempt employees. 8. May perform other duties as assigned. Bachelor’s Degree in related field and eight years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
