Job Summary
The Space Radiation Laboratory (SRL) at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) is soliciting applications for someone to support the electrical engineering staff with electronics parts procurement and testing of instrument electronics on a NASA astrophysics mission; the Ultraviolet Explorer (UVEX), recently selected and under development for a launch in 2030. SRL provides a dynamic and inclusive work environment that emphasizes teamwork in pursuit of scientific discovery. The Space Radiation Laboratory, part of the Physics, Math, and Astronomy Division at Caltech (www.caltech.edu), partners with NASA, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL, operated for NASA by Caltech).
Essential Job Duties
Prepare purchase order requests, contact vendors for quotations and delivery status of electronics parts.
Maintain physical and database inventory of parts, perform receiving inspection, keep track of paperwork, kit parts for assembly, participate in lab testing and light housekeeping.
Pushing high-pressure liquid nitrogen dewars on dollies.
Occasional travel to local vendors and JPL, possible travel to UC Berkeley.
Basic Qualifications
The position requires the candidate to be very detail oriented, with good hands-on skills to be able to handle tiny electronic components and use a laboratory microscope.
Exhibit excellent discipline and work ethics.
Have exceptional organizational and communication skills.
Ability to work independently by following written/verbal instructions.
Maintain traceability paperwork and perform well within a dynamic university research team.
