Assists with planning, establishing, implementing, and maintaining a variety of environmental and health measures and initiatives to ensure compliance with corporate and local EHSS requirements and expectations. Incumbents of this position are qualified professionals who may work independently but more typically as part of a team. Candidate must be experienced in air quality and regulated air pollutants, wastewater, hazardous waste, groundwater and marine, and environmental regulations. Normally reports within a project. Provides guidance, advice, monitoring, and assistance to the organization with compliance to corporate safety and environmental and health requirements. Regular contact with department management including manager, division employees at all levels on EHSS issues. Interfaces with other staff in related organizations such as Loss Prevention and Environmental organizations as needed with the guidance of EHSS Manager.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
Provides advice and consultation to department staff to assist them in maintaining a safe working environment in compliance with environmental and health regulations, standards and practices.
Identifies and evaluates environmental and health compliance issues for projects and operations. Undertakes surveys to identify and evaluate environmental and health conditions. Conducts and coordinates on-site inspections to audit
Review designs of air emission controls, waste and wastewater discharge treatment, and provides recommendations in terms of technology selections to ensure compliance to corporate and national regulatory requirements.
Keeps abreast of significant developments in the environmental field by close review of literature, contacts with suppliers and contractors.
Performs other related duties per supervisor’s direction.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, or related engineering fields.
Twelve (12) years applicable experience, including at least five (5) years as an engineer in responsible charge of technical work in his/her main field. Incumbent must be clearly recognized as an expert in his/her field.
Must have knowledge or training in the following: occupational health, safety and environmental compliance with applicable industry, governmental and/or international standards.
Must have demonstrated knowledge of delivering hands on environmental and health training. Must also have ability to assist with developing, implementing, and coordinating comprehensive environmental and health programs.
Good communication skills, both verbal and written (training/presentations/report writing). Participate in teams and/or committees. Strong PC skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Skilled in the standards, concepts, practices, and procedures within the health, safety and environmental fields. Ability to work at all levels within an organization and the ability to work in a diverse work group.
