| Overview | The School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, located on the George H. Cook Campus, is one of the largest schools of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. We pursue excellence in research, teaching, and outreach in areas of study that address the biological spectrum from molecules to ecosystems. Our emphasis is on both the fundamental sciences and the social and human dimensions. We offer 21 undergraduate majors, including plant and animal sciences, microbiology, biotechnology, agriculture and food systems, landscape architecture, food and nutritional sciences, ecology and evolution, marine science and oceanography, environmental sciences and meteorology, human ecology, entomology, and environmental economics.

| Posting Summary | Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Assistant Dean II for the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. The Assistant Dean for Special Populations and Programs position focuses on strategic planning and design of processes, systems, and programs for special populations (such as mid-year enrollees and nontraditional students) to support the mission of the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences (SEBS). Responsibilities of the Assistant Dean position will include the design and coordination of efforts to broaden enrollment opportunities through new initiatives such as Mid-Year Admissions, supporting first-year students to commit to a broad range of activities in the fall semester and their matriculation to SEBS in the spring semester. For this initiative, this position will facilitate all communications and program aspects, from coordination with the Office of Enrollment Management for student review, through to enrollment, bridge semester activities, transition, and degree completion. This position works closely with the Division of Enrollment Management, the SEBS Office of Global Engagement, Rutgers Study Abroad, Student to Professional Internship Network (SPIN), and Rutgers Cooperative Extension to guide program development and implementation. The Assistant Dean II will also support the growing and complicated population of nontraditional students, providing oversight to identify these students, working across Rutgers–New Brunswick to develop structures, programs, and modalities to support them to degree completion. This position assists the Dean, Associate Dean, Office of Academic Programs (OAP) team, and faculty advisors in supporting SEBS undergraduates and fulfilling the SEBS and NJAES mission. The person in this position is part of a team of advisors in OAP dedicated to general undergraduate advising and student success. This position will enable the office to meet the demands of both new initiatives and provide additional support to special populations for both growth and retention.
Among the key duties of this position are the following: - Establishes a program for Mid-Year Admissions for first-year students in consultation with the Dean, Associate Dean, and Office of Enrollment Management.
- Designs communications and structure for the program as well as provide contact and advising for students who commit to enroll at SEBS in the spring semester.
- Creates and coordinates experiences for students for the fall semester, including but not limited to study abroad, community college, and internship options.
- Works with the SEBS Office of Global Engagement, Rutgers Global, and Rutgers Cooperative Extension to develop and oversee possible opportunities.
- Coordinates student contact and maintain ongoing communication to ensure a seamless transition.
- Works with the New Student Orientation (NSO) office to create a NSO program opportunity for transition.
- Coordinates requests for class space based on student interests as well as early student registration to ensure appropriate courses for the spring semester.
- Coordinates and teaches Academic Mentoring or other transition programming in the spring semester for students in this program.
- Monitors student progress and success and analyze data to ensure program success and consider appropriate growth opportunities.
- Coordinates advising, academic planning, and engagement for the SEBS nontraditional student populations.
- Works with SEBS departments to offer coursework in modalities and times that will better serve a diverse nontraditional population.
- Serves as a resource for nontraditional students to create workable and achievable academic plans.
- Serves on University-wide committees that focus on the nontraditional student experience and needs.
- Works with the Assistant Dean of Retention to identify students who have had a gap in enrollment and provide guidance on re-enrollment and pathways to degree completion
- Serves as a member of the Dean’s staff in the Office of Academic Programs to support all office-wide tasks for the SEBS general student population, including providing individual and group advising, managing and advising caseload of first-year students, participating in all large-scale academic programming including APA Day, STAR Day, graduation certification, delay drop/probation advising, and other administrative duties including serving on SEBS and university committees as assigned.
- Coordinates with various University partners (e.g., SEBS Educational Opportunity Fund, Dean of Students, Rutgers Office of Disability Services, Counseling Services (CAPS), Cultural Collaborative, Student Affairs) to identify and establish additional support for special populations of SEBS students.
- Collaborates with the SEBS Assistant Dean of Retention and the Office of Global Engagement to provide effective identification, outreach, support, and retention efforts for special population students.
- Collects, manages, and assesses data to track special programs and special population students in terms of retention, academic progress, graduation rates, and institutional goals.
- Utilizes data to create innovative and effective programming and support structures as well as suggest pathways to online learning, certificates, and degree plans.
