DISTRICT SAFETY OFFICER
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the school principal or designee, patrol school buildings, yards, parking areas and supervise after-school events to maintain order and prevent illegal acts.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Tour school facilities to prevent altercations or campus disorder and to watch for students or outsiders engaged in illegal or inappro¬priate behavior. E
Check students who appear to be out of class or visitors, who may be loitering, to prevent vandalism, thefts and other illegal activities. E
Contact police department to report crimes; apprehend and hold suspects; investigate vandalism, thefts and illegal activities. E
Assist in classroom if discipline problems arise; escort students from class to office. E
Observe student behavior and report to the school nurse and adminis¬trators any erratic behavior to suggest drugs or physical abuse. E
Transport ill students to office; transport money as required. E
Supervise student lunch area; break up fights and disperse student gatherings when unruly. E
Develop plans and direct emergency evacuations and other activities for safety of individuals. E
Take custody of students brought in by Santa Ana Police Department. E
Administer first aid; assist school nurse. E
Cut locks for students with locker or bicycle problems; conduct bicycle safety checks and coordinate the registration of bicycles; check and secure facilities as directed. E
Patrol front of school and traffic area as assigned. E
Supervise after-school activities to provide physical safety for individuals and property. E
Search for bombs if threats are received; observe and report hazards or activities which might result in negligence charges against the District. E
Write reports. E
Perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Penal Code as it relates to juvenile; school rules.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and one year in law enforcement or related experience.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California driver's license.
First Aid Certificate and CPR Certificate.
Applicant must also show satisfactory proof of completion of the PC 832 course (Laws of Arrest) and proof of completion of one of the following courses:
PC 832.2 (School Police Reserve Officer Training) or PC 823.3 (Campus Law Enforcement) or School Security Training (per Senate Bill 1620 and Education Code 38001.5). The documents (such as certificates or transcripts) verifying the above requirements must accompany the application.

Contact with dissatisfied or abusive individuals.
Possible fights and confrontations.
During student vacation periods, employees in this classification may be temporarily assigned to District Security or unskilled and semi_skilled main¬tenance tasks at either regular work location or at other school sites under Education Code Section 45110. Individuals not desiring reassignment shall take leave without pay.
