- Has education and experience equivalent to the guidelines mandated by CMS in the Clinical Lab Improvement Act (CLIA) of 1988 and NJSDH requirements.
- Certified Histology Technician (ASCP)

Essential Functions:
- Accurately embeds, cuts, stains and coverslips tissue sections from surgical, autopsy and cytology specimens.
- Assists Section Supervisor in the performance of her duties as requested.
- Must have good reasoning ability.
- Must have the ability to organize work and to meet deadlines.
- Participates in the performance of Quality Control procedures.
- Performs all other duties as assigned or directed within scope of department needs and capabilities.
- Performs rapid H & E and Diff-quik staining on tissue specimen slides.
- Performs troubleshooting, maintenance and repair procedures on tissue processors, cryostats, and microtomes as required.
- Prepares specimens by Frozen Section technique.
- Prepares tissue specimens for gross examination.
- Responsible for performance of special stains.
- Responsible to assist pathologist in fine Needle Aspiration Procedure of Palpable Masses.
- Verifies that required information has been provided on the requisition and that the specimen has been properly submitted and fixed.
- Willingness to take call evenings and weekends; as well as work weekends and holidays as required.
