A Brief Overview
Harrington Discovery Institute (Harrington) is a UH department with a transatlantic reach that is dedicated to advancing breakthrough therapeutic discoveries through IND-enabling preclinical studies to regulatory approval. We accomplish our mission by sourcing the best discovery science and providing grants to leading investigators and entrepreneurs across academic centers in the US, UK, and Canada. We have established multiple external strategic partnerships, such as Oxford University, ADDF and Morgan Stanley as well as with venture investment companies and pharmaceutical companies. This position covers contracts and grants management activities that are both outgoing from UH (dba Harrington Discovery Institute) to external entities, and incoming revenue-generating grants and contracts.
What You Will Do
Facilitates execution of contracts and grants associated with Harrington Discovery Institute: maintains up-to-date templates; directly liaises with contract department in awardee and partner institutions during execution phase; ensures Oracle archiving is up-to-date.
Reviews grant agreement and business contract drafts with assistance of HARRINGTON leadership, staff and the University Hospitals Health System (UHHS) Law Department.
Manages contract lifecycle: coordinates with Finance and Grants Management as necessary to set up internal grant payment accounts, address any grant budget concerns or violations and ensure accurate processing, tracking and reporting for all HARRINGTON grants and contracts and close-out of project accounts when complete.
Liase with grantee institutes and HARRINGTON project managers to ensure timely submission of invoices, financial and progress reports; process and track grant-associated payments.
Provides guidance to and assists HARRINGTON department Certified Contract Coordinators (CCCs), including the Therapeutics Development Center (TDC), Operations, Programs, Business Development and other departments that may exist in the future.
Maintains accurate administrative records, including database entries and reporting, in line with both HARRINGTON and UHHS policies and as necessary develops more efficient administrative processes to manage HARRINGTON contract and grant workflow.
Supports grant submission process in coordination with HARRINGTON staff and IR&D; coordinate assembly and submission of outgoing reports to granting/contract agencies and government grant programs as assigned.
Provides support towards HARRINGTON Program efforts, including annual Scientific Symposium planning, stewardship reporting, developing materials and content, etc. when assigned.
Assists with the development, populating, and maintenance of various CRM databases and tools, including SalesForce, SmartSimple, and participate in evaluating other enterprise databases when assigned.

Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.

Bachelor's Degree (Required)
Master's Degree (Preferred)
Work Experience
5 years Finance, Business Administration (Required)
3 years Grant and/or Contract Administration involving research (Required)
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Experience in clinical trial research and budget construction will be considered (Preferred proficiency)
Prior handling of contracts involving business agreements, research grants, or other binding legal documents will be given weight. (Required proficiency)
Excellent communication, writing and editing skills. (Required proficiency)
Working knowledge of applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. (Required proficiency)
Working knowledge of web-enabled database and enterprise software applications (Required proficiency)
Individual will be to use and manage government grants systems such as System for Award Management (SAM) (or manage via other related software, such as Sanction Check). Individual must be willing to learn and utilize new tools for managing grants and contracts based on unforeseen changes in laws and governmental regulations. Licenses and Certifications
Will train to become a Certified Contract Coordinator (CCC) and/or Certified Contract Administrator (CCA) including mastery of the Oracle contracting system and other supporting software as needed Required (Required)
