Position: Director of Elementary Education, Kindergarten – Grade 4
Position Definition: Provides leadership and oversight for all curricular areas in grades K through four. Works collaboratively across the learning community to ensure effective instruction for student learning.
Department: Teaching and Learning
Supervision Received: Receives general direction from and reports directly to the Assistant Superintendent of Schools
Supervision Exercised: Supervises and evaluates elementary instructional coaches, STEM teachers, and library media specialists
Salary: $142,423 - 149,919 per Branford Bargaining Contract
Start Date: August 2024
Essential Duties:
Guides curriculum development, implementation, assessment, evaluation, and revision
Provides and supports professional learning for administrative colleagues to enhance instructional leadership
Leads the planning of professional development for teachers in collaboration with building and district administrators
Provides district level oversight of Response to Intervention services, guidelines, and implementation of best practices
Utilizes student performance data to monitor student growth and ensure efficacious implementation of curriculum and programs
Sustains a presence in classrooms to reinforce implementation of high-quality instructional practices aligned with the district’s definition of deep learning
Creates conditions for collaborative teacher-led teams
Contributes to the development and management of the district’s operating budget to support teaching and learning
Works with various stakeholders to develop and implement instructional policies and practices that maximize student learning
Demonstrates the core value of continuous improvement by investing in ongoing professional learning and personal growth
Leads work on standards-based and proficiency grading and reporting
Qualifications:
Current Connecticut certifications required:
Administrative certification (092)
Related elementary teaching endorsement
Minimum 7 years successful elementary teaching experience
Proven history of curriculum and instructional leadership
Physical, mental exertion/environmental conditions: There is regular intermittent exposure to computer screen. Performs duties in an office environment. May be required to lift and move weights up to 20 pounds. Uses repetitive motions in operating office equipment, including keyboards, calculators, fax machines and copiers. Must be able to hear clearly (correctable to within normal limits) to record telephone information, and to see (vision correctable to 20/20) to complete applications and forms. Adaptive technology may be used.
