Job Abstract

AECOM is seeking an experienced Archaeologist for full-time employment in our Los Angeles or Orange, CA offices. The Project Archaeologist is a core member of the Cultural Resources Practice with responsibility for successfully executing all aspects of project implementation. This is a regular, full-time, salaried position that will report to the Cultural Resources Team Manager. The Project Archaeologist may serve as a Field Director or Principal Investigator, based on work experience and education.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Leading fieldwork (survey, testing, data recovery, and monitoring), archival research, technical report writing, state and federal archaeological permitting, data collection and compilation, and GIS mapping.
• Gathering data and other information to be used in the preparation of environmental reports.
• Working both independently and under supervision of senior staff.
• Supervising personnel in the field, office, and laboratory, as needed.
• Leading or assisting with project management and preparing proposal scopes and budgets.
• Providing specialist technical advice on cultural resource management to clients.
• Liaising and developing positive relationships with clients and other stakeholders.
• Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulatory framework, including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), National Historic Preservation Act, and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
• Ability to organize data in an efficient and clear manner.
• Drawing conclusions and making recommendations based on analysis.
• Interpreting and recording data, conducting analyses, comparing findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
• Working independently and as part of a team.
• Flexibility and willingness to support multiple projects, including occasional travel.
• Being innovative and a problem solver.
• Handling multiple tasks and communicating priorities to manager.
• Participating in marketing and business development efforts in pursuit of new clients and projects.
