POSITION SUMMARY: The Admission Officer handles all aspects of student recruitment for assigned geographical territories, including virtual meetings and presentations as well as periodic travel to meet with high school counselors, community-based organization staff, and prospective students, and to represent Pomona College at college fairs. This position presents regular information sessions on the College’s campus for prospective students and the general public. The Admission Officer reads admission applications and makes recommendations to the Admission Selection Committee. Additionally, this position will participate in Admission programs and initiatives as assigned.
Reporting directly to an Associate Dean of Admission, the Admission Officer performs the following essential duties and responsibilities:
Perform recruiting and admission functions for designated national territories:
Traveling to designated national territories to visit high schools and community-based organizations (CBOs) and attend college fairs.
Contacting, meeting, recruiting and working to enroll at the College prospective high school and transfer students. These tasks will take place both in-person and on virtual platforms.
Responding to inquiries about the admission process in a timely manner and communicating with prospective students, counselors, and other constituents in a professional manner.
Advising prospective students about academic and social opportunities within a broad liberal arts education, including internships, research, study abroad, minors and double majors.
Assisting students with the application process.
Reading, evaluating and rating applicant admission materials to make appropriate referrals to the Admission Selection Committee and to meet the College’s annual enrollment goals.
Following up with admitted students to answer their questions and assist them in finding resources at the College.
Serving as the College liaison to students, parents/guardians, and educational professionals (teachers, counselors, CBOs) in their assigned territories.
Collaborate with Admission colleagues to develop and implement strategies to attract and enroll underrepresented students at the College.
Collaborate with Admission Communication team to manage social media as part of the office’s efforts to share student and campus life.
Participate as part of office teams to accomplish goals of the office, sharing in responsibilities to ensure the success of programs and initiatives.
Provide input and feedback on the functioning of admission programs and initiatives through regular staff meetings and office retreats.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in a liberal arts field, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A valid driver’s license is required or equivalent means of reliable transportation to off-site meetings and events. A minimum of 0-2 years of experience working with high school students and counselors is preferred, but not required. The ability to speak a language other than English is also preferred, but not required. Experience at an academic institution is preferred.
REQUIRED HOURS: The regular hours for this full-time position are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday – Friday. Holiday, weekend and evening work hours will be required. Travel will be required at least four times a year to assigned territories. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College or division.
ADDITIONAL POSITION DETAILS: This is a temporary one (1) year, full-time, exempt, benefits eligible position. The yearly rate for this role is between $66,560-$68,000 per year. The specific factors that the College will consider when offering a salary to an individual will include, but not be limited to: education, training, relevant prior experience, and performance in prior role.
