Madison High School has one full time (1.0 FTE), 11 month position to fill.
The Army Science Instructor is assigned within the high school Army JROTC program. The Army Science Instructor is directed by the Senior Army Instructor to properly instruct cadets and manage the JROTC unit in accordance with military regulations and district policies and procedures.
Examples of Duties
Candidate will:
Develop a schedule for the year reflecting school activities and HSROTC objectives and activities. Include Cadets in the planning phase and organize Cadets and resources toward the objectives.
Perform administrative tasks.
Maintain electronic student records; provide enrollment and other student reports as required by the appropriate military service; meet school administrative requirements.
Carry out logistics tasks.
Prepare requisitions.
Maintain federal supply operations in accordance with regulatory guidance.
Enroll and retain new students.
Prepare Cadets for career or college and ensure they graduate high school. Visit feeder schools at least once a year.
Teach HSROTC Cadets.
Achieve the curricular requirements and learning standards of the Program of Instruction. Attain and improve proficiency in all subjects taught. Continuously improve instruction by staying abreast of new and alternative instructional and motivational techniques.
Counsel and mentor students on their academic performance as members of the Corps of Cadets.
Assist interested students in applying for scholarships and completing service academy applications.
Accomplish all required school tasks.
Participate in staff meetings, school committees, and student activities.
Perform duties required of other teachers in the school.
Plan, organize and conduct hands-on training that build from instructions in the classroom: color guard, drill teams, and HSROTC social activities, such as an Annual Military Ball.
Conduct risk assessment to mitigate the possibility of an accident for all activities; observe and enforce Military and School safety guidelines.
Develop professional qualifications.
Participate in recurring instructor conferences and other professional development opportunities offered by the school district. Meet any continuing education requirements of the state, school district and military service.
Prepare the unit for official visits by dignitaries, annual accreditation visit, and mandated assist visits from higher headquarters.
Set an outstanding personal example of professional, social and personal behavior and appearance for Cadets, colleagues and the community.
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to obtain JROTC Credential.
Must be certified by the United States Army Cadet Command Headquarters and meet eligibility requirements established by the sponsor military service in accordance with public law. Must be a retired or honorably discharged Non-Commissioned Officer (E6-E9) or Warrant Officer (W1-W5) with at least 10 years of service, or current serving member of the Army Reserve or Army National Guard Warrant Officer (W1-W4) or Non-Commissioned Officer (E6-E9) with no less than 10 years of service. Must pass the CBEST exam within the first year and the PE CSET exams within the first four years of hire.
