FOOD SERVICE ASSOCIATE II
DEFINITION
Under general supervision of Lead Cook, assists Lead Cook and Cook at the basekitchen, in food preparation; cleans kitchen equipment and utensils. Does other related work as required by supervisor.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Performs a variety of general service and production duties. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to working primarily in the base kitchen to assist the Lead Cook and Cook in preparing the entree for the day. Helps load product for satellite schools. Helps prepare fresh fruits or vegetables, open canned fruit and vegetables, slices meat; sandwich and salad production; bake-off baking. Tells Cook what supplies need to be ordered for breakfast, salads and “Fun Lunches”. Helps putting various vendor orders away on a weekly basis. Serves meals to students and staff. Does general cleanup, including washing pots and pans, cleaning stoves, ovens, steam kettle, proof cabinets, racks, etc. Keeps kitchen in clean and tidy condition. Works in a safe manner and observes all sanitation procedures. Abides by and carries out State and Federal regulations as they pertain to the National School Lunch Program. Participates in yearly training and skill upgrading forums as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Principles of portion control, sanitation and safety, time and motion, food preparation, nutrition, and methods of quantity food preparation.
Base mathematics.
Use and care of institutional kitchen equipment and utensils.
Standards for safety and sanitation.
Ability to:
Accept responsibility to assist the Lead Cook and Cook or substitute for either when he/she is absent.
Learn Breakfast and Lunch program and procedures.
Work effectively and harmoniously with others.
Understand and follow written and oral instructions related to the job.
Use good judgment and skills in setting up and performing the assigned duties.
Use good judgement in maintaining high standards for safety and sanitation.
Produce products and service of good quality.
Take and pass a Serv Safe examination over a period of time, books and classes provided.
Physical Requirements:
Extensive standing or walking.
Physical strength sufficient to lift up to 50 pounds.
Frequent activity requiring full-body exertion.
Ability to see for purposes of reading correspondence, documents and other printed matter.
Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels in person and/or on the telephone.
Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation in person and/or on the telephone.
Mental acuity to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgements and decisions.
EXPERIENCE:
Work as a Food Service Associate I for a minimum of one (1) year or equivalent related experience in institutional food service work.
EDUCATION:
Completion of formal or informal education, 12th grade or equivalent, sufficient to assure the ability to read and write English at the level required for successful job performance.
Requires taking and passing basic math test for successful job performance.
LICENSE:
Possession of an appropriate California driver’s license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles.
