As a Network Implementation Engineer, you will be on the front lines of our efforts to execute deployment, maintenance, and operations of private data networks worldwide. You will work with Technical Program Managers, Network Engineers, Design and Infrastructure Engineers, Field Engineers within Google, as well as construction and telecommunications vendors and contractors, all to position your team and organization for success.
Your subject matter expertise coupled with your experience in all aspects of network communications, optical transport and routing, data centers, infrastructure, and colocation, will be leveraged to facilitate faster, better, and more efficient, positive outcomes for the business and our customers. Your objective will be to build a reliable, cost-effective, and scalable network to support all of our current and future customers and users globally.Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $93,000-$136,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. - Manage installation technicians for rack, stack, and installation of networking equipment.
- Commission and test routers, optical transport equipment, and other network devices in new and existing network nodes across Google's global network.
- Generate implementation plans and provide technical leadership/guidance during deployment activities.
- Work with project management, network engineering, and other engineering teams to identify potential problems in network installations, including in the areas of facility power, cooling, security/access, rack layout, and cable management.
- Own network documentation, update and maintain network drawings and plans.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 2 years of experience in telecommunications at carrier scale working with optical network infrastructure, transmission systems, layer2/3 routers, and data services and 2 years of experience in telecommunications, OSP, ISP, AC/DC power systems, and relay rack/cabinet/cage construction.
- Experience planning and coordinating with field operation technicians, engineers, contractors, or vendors in a telecommunications working environment and experience planning and leading network deployments and creating deployment packages and Maintenance Operation Procedures.
- Ability to travel up to 25% as needed within the metro area.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience working with local exchange carrier and other telecom service providers, building landlords, electricians, construction operators, and non-technical end users.
- Experience with scripting and programming.
- Experience in telecommunications, particularly at carrier class scale with knowledge of large optical network infrastructure, transmission systems, layer2/3 routers, and data services.
- Experience in a data center or PoP environment with knowledge of OSP, ISP, AC/DC power systems, and environmental controls relay rack, cabinet, and cage construction.
- Experience managing or directing field operation technicians, engineers, contractors or vendors in a Telco environment.
