Job Overview
The Georgetown University Law Center is currently seeking a dynamic Mitigation Program Director for its Georgetown Climate Center (GCC).
The Director will be a key member of the Georgetown Climate Center leadership team, providing strategic direction to the mitigation program, overseeing our extensive body of work on clean energy and strategies to reduce emissions.
They supervise and contribute to timely analysis and facilitation of discussions among government officials to identify best practices for implementing federal legislation and initiatives, including the Inflation Reduction Act, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the Justice40 Initiative and new regulations; and support state, local, and Tribal officials in advancing ambitious subnational laws and policies.

Work Interactions
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Mitigation Program Director works closely with other Center directors – and with faculty and Georgetown senior administration, with other academics, with students, and with external partners, including senior local, state, federal and Tribal officials, (e.g., senior representatives of NGOs), funders, and the media.
They also oversee the strategic direction of GCC’s mitigation program, supervise advanced research and writing projects, lead multi-stakeholder convenings, and ensure the delivery of quality work products; and supervise the work of four full-time GCC staff members, in addition to fellows, consultants, and student research assistants.

Requirements and Qualifications
- Advanced degree - preference for J.D.
- At least 7 years of experience in environmental law and policy, including clean energy and emissions reduction strategies
- Experience working for, with, or on matters related to U.S. state, local, federal, or Tribal governments and their role in clean energy and emissions reduction
- Substantive expertise on one or more aspects of transportation, energy or environmental pollution law and/or policy, e.g., environmental justice, public utility regulation, pollution regulation, energy markets, multi-sector climate action planning, transportation systems, or clean energy standards
- Demonstrated expertise identifying strategic needs and opportunities
- Demonstrated experience fundraising and managing complex projects
- Excellent research, speaking, and writing and editing skills
- Strong interpersonal skills, project management skills, professionalism, and sound judgment
- Experience supervising staff teams
- Professional judgment to represent GCC in interactions with senior local, state, federal and Tribal officials and other stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
- High-level understanding of issues related to climate change adaptation and resilience and their connections to strategies to reduce emissions
- Experience working with students or in an academic setting
