Talen Energy is looking for candidates to fill an opening for a senior financial analyst role (Sr. Generation Business Specialist), supporting our Baltimore based power plants (Brandon Shores & H.A. Wagner). Key responsibilities include developing, monitoring, and revising budgets to meet defined targets, as well as developing and implementing 5 year business plans. This position would be located at the Talen Energy Brandon Shores facility in Baltimore, MD (Pasadena area). We are seeking qualified candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance/Business/Mathematics/Engineering, or 10 years of equivalent experience in one or a combination of these areas.
Job Summary:
Provide business oversight and leadership in support of efforts to maximize the value derived from Talen’s fleet of generating facilities. Specifically, develop and implement 5 year business plans, financial management controls systems, solve business problems and perform highly specialized financial, accounting, and economic analyses. Key member of the leadership team, overall responsibility to develop, monitor, and revise budgets as needed to meet assigned targets. Possesses in-depth knowledge plant systems and overall integrated understanding of how to prioritize work to best support the plant's tactical and strategic goals. Has the ability to enter, track, and status work orders within the work management system. Works within established maintenance management programs to extract and analyze data related to maintenance performance and overall health of systems. Has the ability to make decisions related to work management priorities and temporary staffing needs in order to achieve plant goals.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Provide financial leadership and oversight at Talen’s plant locations. Perform most advanced and specialized analytical work requiring comprehensive knowledge of business techniques and plant operations.
2. Clearly communicate technical and complex topics orally and in writing. Communicate with all levels of management as an expert in a functional area. This includes collaborating with management to define issues and needs, as well as developing and recommending improvement and corrective actions.
3. Develop and monitor 5-year individual asset plans in support of the Business Plan including developing annual expense/capital budget elements and annual performance objectives. Monitor expenditure and revenue streams during the year to gauge conformance to plan and programs. Recommend corrective actions when deviations from plans occur.
4. Establish and maintain effective working relationships across all departments.
5. Provide oversight at the power plants related to key business process controls administered under the Sarbanes-Oxley program.
6. Formulate and present various analyses and reports of project costs and related information to plant and regional senior management. Ensure that costs are represented accurately, objectively and in accordance with Talen Corporate Financial guidelines and procedures.
7. Provide leadership to the Department. Manages headcount and provides significant input and analysis into the station's Knowledge Retention Plan. Also provides analysis along with budget of operation of the station during outage and non-outage periods.
Basic Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering/Mathematics/Accounting/Finance/Business or 10 years of equivalent experience in one or a combination of these areas
2. Expert knowledge of information systems including Workday, Micro Strategy, PBCS, proficiency in PC applications such as Access, EXCEL, Oracle, Power Point, etc.; also ability to retrieve information from on-line services.
3. Broad understanding of plant operations and processes. Proficiency in Financial and Accounting concepts. Thorough understanding of financial statements and economic analysis techniques and principles.
4. Excellent analytical and communication skills (oral and written) required for analyzing and reporting information to all levels of the corporation, customers, and clients.
5. Ability to manage a project and identify resource needs, develop project plan and schedule, and maintain that schedule.
6. Ability to use time and resources effectively.
7. Ability to work on concurrent projects, and negotiate with both internal and external customers.
8. Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
9. Ability to make accurate decisions quickly and to meet tight deadlines with excellent quality and services.
10. Effective written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
11. Demonstrated ability to research and apply guidance.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Experience in power plants with knowledge of systems.
2. MBA Desired.
