The ideal candidate will have great organizational skills, technically savvy, excellent customer service experience and the ability to work in a fast paced highly confidential work environment.

Summary Description
THE POSITION:
The Office Specialist- Confidential is a journey level classification responsible for a wide variety of clerical support duties for an individual department. Incumbents are expected to independently perform the full scope of assigned duties with minimum supervision. This class is distinguished from the next higher classification of Office Specialist Ill in that the latter is responsible for more complex office duties as well as providing extensive support to an entire Division/Department, and depending upon assignment, may act as the main dispatcher for the Division/Department.
Under general supervision, performs a variety of clerical duties in support of an assigned function; assists the public at the counter and on the phone with City policies, complaints, and questions; writes a variety of correspondence; sorts, logs, and maintains records and other documents; interprets and applies policies, procedures, and work methods associated with assigned function; performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
Standard office and administrative policies and procedures
Specified computer applications involving word processing, data entry, database access and/or standard report generation.
Business arithmetic; basic principles of mathematics.
Methods and techniques for scheduling work assignments.
Standard office procedures, practices, and equipment; modern office equipment, including a computer and applicable software.
Methods and techniques for record keeping and report preparation and writing; proper English, spelling, and grammar.
Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.

Operate standard office equipment, including a computer and variety of word processing and software applications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education/Experience Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for an Office Specialist- Confidential. Example combinations include a high school diploma or equivalent, and two years of clerical experience equivalent to that of an Office Specialist I in the City of Hemet.
A background in finance or accounting is highly desired.
Certification/License
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of California driver license and the ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record.
Supplemental Information
Physical Requirements:
Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in preparing reports using a computer keyboard. Additionally, the position requires near and far vision in reading written reports and work related documents. Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal service. The need to lift, drag and push files, paper, and documents weighing up to 25 pounds is also required.
Selection Process:
All properly completed applications will be reviewed and the most appropriately qualified individuals will be invited to continue in the selection process. The process may include any combination of a written exam, oral board interview, and/or skills assessment to further evaluate job-related qualifications. Candidates who successfully complete the selection process will be placed on an eligibility list which will remain valid for a minimum of six months.
Note: Prospective employees will undergo, and must successfully pass, a background reference check (including fingerprinting) and a medical examination. Drug screening may be required.
