Posting Summary	Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Student Counselor for the Department of Studies and Employment Relations at the School of Management and Labor Relations. Among the key duties of the position are the following: Serves as one of two academic advisors for the undergraduate programs offered by the Labor Studies and Employment Relations Department. Works extensively with students to assure their selection of the major, their meeting major and university requirements for graduation, and their preparation for a future career. Maintains accurate records, maintains critical student files, and provides statistical reports as requested. Recruits majors and performs outreach to prospective majors through the creation of attractive printed materials, one on one discussions, and presentations. Asists faculty who teach in the program with issues that arise with regard to particular students. Works collaboratively with the rest of the Student Services and Academic Program staff and coordinates with SAS, Career Services, and other University offices. Works under general supervision of the Assistant Dean for Student Services and the faculty Undergraduate Program Director, within established work parameters, with minimal supervision. Performs professional work that requires knowledge of University rules and regulations, general program coordination practices, and the application and use of concepts, theories, and terminology of the organization.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience	Bachelor’s degree in employment relations, social sciences, or related field. Three (3) years of overall work experience.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities	Experience working with students and faculty in a university setting. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills. Computer literacy and proficiency in university databases related to student services.
Preferred Qualifications	A Master’s degree in counseling, employment relations, or social sciences field. Knowledge of careers related to labor studies and employment relations. Knowledge of American labor unions and other employee advocacy organizations.
Equipment Utilized
Physical Demands and Work Environment	Requires occasional work in evenings and weekends. Own transportation and willingness to travel in the NJ/NY/PA area to promote the program.
