Alief - International Services YMCA is a unique branch of the YMCA of Greater Houston that seeks to meet the needs of Houstons significant refugee and immigrant communities. We provide comprehensive programs that focus on building human assets and fostering self-sufficiency. As a Logistics Assistant on our team, you will play an integral role in helping refugees, asylees, Cuban border crossers, Special Immigrant Visa holders and victims of human trafficking gain access to a wide range of social support services with the goal of becoming self-sufficient.
Duties /Responsibilities
The Logistics Assistant will be responsible for the following, but not limited to, duties of assisting with apartment setups for newly arriving families; assisting in setting up electric for new apartments, and assisting in completing required paperwork for newly arrived families.
Specific duties include but are not limited to:
- Assist Logistics Specialist in purchasing all required pre-arrival goods for newly arriving families in the Reception & Placement Program
- Assist in ensuring all purchased and donated items are accurately stored and documented with community partners
- Assist Logistics Specialist with ordering furniture and communicating with furniture vendors for timely delivery for newly arriving families
- Assist in purchasing first-night food/supplies
- Support in visually confirming apartment is ready upon the client's arrival
- Assist Logistics Specialist, as needed, with electric setup
- Reports suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
- Follows mandated abuse and incident reporting requirements.
- Meets timelines and deadlines related to supporting systems and employee compliance. Examples includes but are not limited to Kronos Workforce Ready for review and approval of timesheets
- Performs other duties as assigned including food pantry distribution.
Outcomes
- All new arrivals in R&P receive basic goods & furniture before arriving to the US
- All new arrivals in R&P have electric setup upon arrival to the US
Requirements
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills - refugee language a plus
- Experience with refugee populations
- Proficient with various computer programs (Microsoft, Excel, Word) and accurate data entry
- College diploma or equivalent experience
- Able to regularly lift 75+ pounds required
- Valid drivers license, clean driving record, automobile liability insurance, and a vehicle
