ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:
A successful Managing Director on the Cybersecurity & Data Privacy Communications team will play a leadership role in business development and broadening the team’s network with legal partners and other business partners, while also developing and managing crisis communications response strategies for companies facing active cybersecurity attacks or threats. Additionally, this position will lead cybersecurity communications preparedness projects, tabletop exercises, and other specialized offerings within the Cybersecurity & Data Privacy Communications practice.
As part of a team, the Managing Director will source new business pursuits and drive business development efforts, seek opportunities for networking with other industry experts, and mentor team members on their own business development objectives. In addition, the Managing Director will lead teams on large, complex matters for clients experiencing cybersecurity incidents such as ransomware attacks, nation-state attacks, incidents involving critical infrastructure and other key operational disruptions, attacks on major B2B corporations, among others. The Managing Director is first and foremost a client counselor and team leader and must be comfortable serving as the client-facing point person as well as interacting with external counsel, insurers, and other third-party partners who play a critical role on an incident response team.
The Managing Director will also be expected to bring an existing set of relationship with key partners in the industry and a pipeline of new business leads and opportunities. They will also be expected to participate in marketing and brand-building activities, such as conference participation, developing thought leadership pieces, and identifying impactful speaking opportunities on behalf of the team and firm.

The Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Communications team provides strategic crisis management counsel and support on highly scrutinized cyber and data privacy incidents, including those linked to State AG investigations, class action litigation, congressional inquiries and testimonies, investigative reporting or other foreign government investigations and involving major operational disruptions and legal notification obligations. The team has handled incidents involving PII, IP, PHI, and has successfully navigated business email compromise, phishing and spear phishing, DDoS, credential stuffing, vendor compromise, critical infrastructure and nation-state and double-extortion ransomware attacks.
A highly collaborative and entrepreneurial group, the team proudly consists of former intelligence agency officials, seasoned corporate and crisis communications leaders, journalists, attorneys, government spokespersons and Congressional investigators who have advised on or managed hundreds of high-profile data security and privacy incidents. The team’s diverse background and scope of expertise allow it to provide clients, including Fortune 500 companies and other multinationals across sectors and geographies, with unique and effective solutions.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
The Managing Director leads pursuits and is expected to be a primary driver of business development opportunities for the team. They bring an existing set of relationships within the industry, with the opportunity to surface live leads and new business referrals. This position will also be responsible for shaping the strategy for the team’s larger, more complex incident response and crisis preparedness matters as well as moving the overarching practice’s business plan and objectives forward.
Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to, the following:
Network with industry partners and accelerate the expansion of business opportunities and the team’s new business pipeline
Expand relationships internally at FTI with other expert teams and help spot new business opportunities within the network
Serve as the lead client contact, providing strategic counsel directly to clients in meetings and while working on-site with clients
Serve as a mentor to professionals who are seeking to expand their own new business efforts and pipelines
Anticipate client needs and concerns and work to proactively to address them
Work with other senior leaders to manage team capacity and deploy resources appropriately
Drive new marketing and brand awareness efforts, including the development of thought leadership and identification of impactful speaking opportunities
Support team training and professional development and serve as a performance manager to direct reports
Manage profitability and utilization on multiple projects and accounts
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree
15+ years of crisis/issue management, cybersecurity, and/or corporate communications experience in relevant roles serving clients and developing new business
Existing network within the cybersecurity industry that can translate to new business opportunities
Prior client service, consulting, agency experience is a must
Ability to advise and secure confidence of senior communications and C-level client contacts, as well as outside legal counsel and other advisors
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and written and verbal presentation skills
Experience in cybersecurity and data privacy matters
Strong work ethic, attention to detail and a service-oriented attitude
Ability to work under pressing deadlines and portray calm during high stakes situation to clients and other team members
Track record of leading communications with multiple stakeholders (investors, employees, customers, media, etc.) during crisis events
