ANTICIPATED SELECTION PROCESS (WHICH MAY BE SUBJECT TO CHANGE): The District reserves the right to utilize a flexible pass point (cut-off) on any test part to meet the staffing needs as determined by the District.
- WRITTEN EXAMINATION: The written examination portion of the test may have multiple steps which may be administered on different days (50% of total score).

PARTICIPATION IN ALL PORTIONS OF THE EXAMINATION PROCESS IS BY OFFICIAL INVITATION ONLY. Candidates who do not participate and successfully pass all parts of the examination process will not be considered for the position.
POSITION DETAILS AND DUTIES:
FULL-TIME POSITION; EIGHT (8) HOURS PER DAY; TWELVE (12) MONTHS PER YEAR.
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Director of Technology, performs specialized work implementing, maintaining, servicing and monitoring local and wide, wired and wireless computing and telecommunications network. Carries out installation, testing, and technical tasks in support of the network infrastructure for connected devices. Performs journey-level technical duties and provides system level support for district networks, servers, and associated processes. Provide day-to-day support for district local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), network servers, and end-user computer workstations. Provides professional, courteous and timely customer service to staff and students.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
Network/Computer Specialist I is a mid-level position in this series and has the most limited scope of any network specialist. The Network Specialist I is knowledgeable and capable of supporting specific tasks within the network, but may not understand how those specific tasks fit into the broader picture of how everything works together. The Network Specialist II has a broader scope of knowledge and capability. The Network Specialist II level is able to understand the major components of networks and, generally, how those components fit into the overall environment. The Network Specialist II functions at the journey-level and performs all the duties of and gives guidance to the entry-level positions of Network/Computer Technician and the Network/Computer Specialist I.

Initial/Minimum Qualifications

INITIAL/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
OPTION 1: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: - A degree with an emphasis in information systems or computer science (computer operation, information systems, or network operations).
- Two (2) years general computer and/or technical experience in installing and maintaining computer networks, and one (1) year of experience in network management.
- One (1) year of current duties as Network Specialist I or equivalent level is preferred.

OPTION 2: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: - Graduation from high school OR General Education Development (GED) equivalent is required.
- Five (5) years general computer and/or technical experience in installing and maintaining computer networks and three (3) years’ experience in network management.
- Two (2) years of current duties must be at the Network Specialist I or equivalent level is preferred.

EXAMINATION PROCESS:
Please note that the District reserves the right to add, eliminate or adjust testing steps and/or information on the posting at any time during the position posting and testing process. The process may include, but is not limited to, further testing inclusive of on-the-job testing, recruitment and recruitment extensions, which may be for less than fifteen (15) days after the certification of an eligibility list. As a result, there may be adjustments if reasonable or necessary.
REVIEW PROCESS
If you would like to review your examination after receiving your test results notice, you must submit the "Examination Review Form" to Classified Personnel within seven (7) working days of the result notice date. You may obtain the "Examination Review Form" from the Classified Personnel department. It is the responsibility of the job applicant to submit the "Examination Review Form" within the designated time frame. If the requirements for the examination review are met, a Classified Personnel will schedule an appointment for the review.
ELIGIBILITY LIST EXPIRATION:
Candidates who are successful in all parts of the screening and examination process will be placed on an eligibility list. Typically, an eligibility list for a classification expires after one (1) year (Eligibility lists may be extended beyond one (1) year or expire sooner than one (1) year). Candidates on the expired eligibility list are no longer considered for positions within the classification. If an eligible candidate successfully tests for the same classification before the current eligibility list expires, the eligibility lists will merge and the eligible's most recent examination score will be applied. It is the responsibility of each eligible to know his/her eligibility list status.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT:
It is the responsibility of the employee to ensure that all licenses and certifications required for this position are up-to-date to remain in the position.
SELECTIVE CERTIFICATION (Personnel Commission Rules & Regulations 50.200.4G/ ED CODE 45277): Some positions may require the ability to speak, read or write a language in addition to English. Such certification and appointment shall be made from among the highest three eligibles.
