The Prince George’s County Department of Public Works & Transportation is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a {Chief, Transit Operations}, grade G31, in the Office of Transportation.
Under general direction, the Chief of Transit Operations plans, organizes, oversees, coordinates, and manages the staff and activities of the Transit Operations Division; manages the day-to-day delivery of public transportation services for fixed route, on-demand, paratransit and micro transit services; manages the effective use of Division resources to improve organizational productivity and customer service. The next proactive leader in this position will be accountable for providing hands-on oversight of setting, achieving and reporting the Prince George’s County Transit Forward initiatives and goals, including surveying current and future riders and improving the rider experience, such as on-time performance, amenities, etc., for the TheBus, Call-A-Bus, and PGC Link. Regular administration of the transit fleet asset management and maintenance plans are also core functions of this role (i.e., preventive maintenance, bus replacement, etc.). The Chief of Transit Operations provides complex and responsible support to Associate Director of Transportation in areas of expertise; and performs related work as required. The Chief of Transit Operations will also play a pivotal role in transitioning the primarily diesel fleet to zero emissions in Prince George’s County. The chief will use subject matter expertise and zero emission knowledge to lead technical decisions to support capital planning, project implementation and budget and scheduling forecasting. The incumbent will focus on technical oversight and administration of the zero-emissions transit fleet with facilities, maintenance programs, and supporting the transition to sustainable transit operations. They will partner with internal and external stakeholders to procure zero emission fleet technology, ensure the fleet's performance aligns with the department’s vision for efficient, sustainable transit services.
This position has a considerable degree of latitude for independent judgment, action, and initiative to advance complex work assignments and projects according to established policies and procedures, leading and providing technical guidance, training, and subordinate coaching and mentoring.

This position will require the ability to lead others while also rolling up their sleeves to do the work to support the division's daily operations.
About the Agency
The Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) is responsible for nearly 2,000 miles of County-maintained roadways that range from rural to urban classifications. The transportation infrastructure includes 900 bridges, as well as shoulders, sidewalks, curbs/gutters, stormwater management facilities, driveway aprons and nearly 3,000 acres of grassy area -- all of which are maintained by staff of the Department. DPW&T’s workforce keeps the County’s various services moving by performing a myriad of activities which include removing snow and ice from County-maintained roadways, upgrading traffic signals, installing street lights, clearing fallen trees, unclogging drainage inlets and maintaining stormwater management facilities, as well as performing roadway repairs ranging from potholes and sidewalk trip hazards to bridge repairs and resurfacing projects and more.
