Job Description
The Global Studies Group at Sarah Lawrence College invites applications for a guest position in African American Literature for the academic year 2024-2025. The position is full-time, teaching two courses each semester (four days on campus per week.) Most classes are small seminars (15) accompanied by biweekly individual meetings between faculty and student to oversee their research projects. Lectures are capped at 45 students.
While we welcome a variety of specializations in African American literature, we are especially interested in scholars with specializations in one or more of the following fields: the literature of slavery, Black Feminism, Afro-Latin Studies, Black religions, and/or Black Queer Studies. The ideal candidate will be able to teach courses across periods. We seek teachers/scholars who are passionate about teaching and have demonstrated excellence in teaching African American Literature at the undergraduate level both in the classroom and with individual students.
Applicants should submit a C.V., proposed syllabi for two courses, a statement of teaching philosophy, a sample of writing, and two references.
Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.
Compensation listed for this position is on a per-course basis, contingent on teaching experience.

The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. (or ABD) in Literature or a related discipline by the time of appointment.
