About Our Client
Our client is one of the largest and most well respected design-build GC/CM's in the state of New Jersey. Currently looking for a Project Controls Manager/Project Accountant to help with the day to day financial and accounting duties related to their projects in construction. The position reports directly to the company's CFO/Controller providing an excellent learning environment for a motivated, ambitious and hard-working individual. The ideal candidate is an ambitious and motivated self-started, who posesses excellent technical (computer software) and organizational skills.
Job Description
Performs all accounting and/or financial functions relating to assigned projects (e.g. project controls, accounts payable, accounts receivable, job costs, etc.).
Monitors and enforces company policy and procedures with regard to assigned projects.
Sets up jobs and contracts in Timberline, which includes entering budgets based on an approved schedule of values.
Records subcontractor commitments provided by the Contract Administrator and approved by the Project Manager/Design Manager, comparing amounts to appropriate line items on the schedule of values.
Reviews approved subcontractor progress payment applications and reconciles them to previous submissions.
Reconciles schedule of values on application to subcontractor commitment.
Compiles submitted payment requests from subcontractors and suppliers, compares them to Job Cost reports, and includes applicable amounts for general conditions and fees to produce a payment request to be submitted to the owner.
Reconciles current request for owner payment to previous submissions.
Obtains releases of liens from all suppliers and subcontractors for the previous month's payment before issuing checks for further payment.
Maintains log-on progress payments and release of liens.
Maintains ongoing record of retainage being held on subcontracts/vendors.
Reviews contracts for release of retainage and notifies the Project Manager of any upcoming releases.
Monitors special payment arrangements to ensure that time-sensitive payments are made on time.
Performs Job close-out duties, including reconciling commitments, archiving files, and closing the job in the system.

The Successful Applicant
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or ideally 2-5 years' accounting experience, ideally experience in construction
Ability to effectively prioritize time and meet deadlines.
Highly reliable with strong organizational skills to manage a large amount of documents and information.
A sense of urgency with an ability to multitask and ability to meet multiple deadlines.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Proficiency in working with and reading financial spreadsheet software (Microsoft Excel) as well as fundamental skills with other Microsoft Products.
