Responsibilities: | The Communications Office within Student Success is seeking a highly organized and driven student to assist with developing and directing communications for parents and families of New School students. The Student Assistant for Family Communications will have the opportunity to collaborate and develop important communication strategies, expand their portfolio, and work in a professional environment that seeks to improve communications with key stakeholders.
Applicants should anticipate working 8-10 hours per week during the academic year from approximately September 2024 to May 2025. Payment is $17/hour through their Federal Work Study award. This position is predominantly in-person in Fanton Hall (72 5th Ave, New York, NY 10011), with some meetings over virtual video calls.

RESPONSIBILITIES - Gather, organize, and write content for the quarterly Family Newsletter.
- Manage the official Family Facebook Page; respond to direct messages, approve members and posts, and share relevant information about what’s happening at the university.
- Respond to timely inquiries in the families@newschool.edu inbox and connect senders with relevant contacts at the university.
- Draft and publish engaging blog posts in the CampusESP portal.
- Provide event support during Family Weekend (October)
WORK MODE - Hybrid/Split – Employees hired for this position have regularly scheduled, consistent percentage of time on campus (ex 1-4x/week) and also work some of the time remotely.
SALARY RANGE Pay rate: $17/hour

Writing Prompt: In this role, you will be asked to write blog posts to share with parents and families to help them understand the New School student experience. Please select a topic or event to share with parents and families, and write a blog asking them to encourage their students to participate. The blog post should be no longer than 300 words (think 2-3 brief paragraphs).

Minimum Qualifications: |
- Must be a current full-time New School student
- Progress toward a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in media, communications, writing, or relevant work experience
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both in writing and verbally
- Proven proficiency in upholding social justice principles in the delivery of communications to a diverse audience
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and strategically drive initiatives forward
- Excellent writing skills; experienced in copy/editing, applying feedback, and providing revisions and iterations in a timely manner
- Proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Office applications.
- Can work with The New School’s branding and style guides to create a suite of coherent collateral across Student Success
- Experience with email management systems (ex: Constant Contact or Mailchimp) a plus
