The Media Specialist I is an entry level position. Range for Media Specialist I is $4,688-$5,997
The Media Specialist lI is a journey level position and distinguished from the Media Specialist I by the advanced skill level, increasingly responsible assignments, and operating with a degree of independence. Range for Media Specialist II is $5,177-$6,622
THE POSITION This position is a part of the City Manager's Office and reports to the Media Supervisor. As a Media Specialist, you will perform a variety of complex, technical and professional public information functions related to the City's mass communications products. This includes the government access television station; printed news publications; online, website and social media platforms; video streaming; and other emerging communications. You will work on the Cascades Newspaper. this publication gets mailed to every Monterey Park household and business on the first of the month, the Cascades newspaper features municipal, educational and regional government events and activities for the Monterey Park community. You will also broadcast regular City Council meetings. These meetings are broadcast live on the Internet and cable TV on the first and third Wednesdays of the month. Special meetings may also be called by the City Council and held during the week or on weekends.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE The ideal candidate is someone with a passion for communication. They will be a detail-oriented individual with experience editing and creating articles meant for public information and entertainment. They will have experience in event coverage and start to finish video production. They are an independent, self-starter, with an eye for social media content creation. The ideal candidate will have some experience in TV broadcasting or some form of live production in video or audio formats.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience/Training
Media Specialist l: One (1) year of recent paid work experience within the field of cable television, public relations, and marketing, or managing the operation of a local cable television channel within a public or private organization. Experience with performing technical video production and computer graphics works is required.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Communications, Journalism, Public or Business Administration, Public Relations, or a closely related field is highly desirable.
Media Specialist ll: Three (3) years of paid and progressively responsible work experience within the field of cable television, public relations and marketing or managing the operation of a local cable television channel within a public or private organization. Experience performing technical video production and computer graphics work is required.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Communications, Journalism, Public or Business Administration, Public Relations or a closed related field is required.
Licenses and Certifications
Possession of a valid Class C California Motor Vehicle Operator's license is required at time of appointment and is a condition of continued employment.

Physical demand: Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities. May occasionally climb, use ladders, and be tight spaces. The position requires finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive hand movement, fine coordination to operate computer hardware, standard office equipment/ video production equipment, camera equipment, and reach with hands and arms above and below shoulder level. The employee frequently lifts equipment typically weighing up to 50 pounds, pulls, pushes, and carries equipment typically weighing up to 100 pounds and over uneven surfaces and extended distances. Additionally, sensory demands include the ability to talk and hear. The position requires near and far vision and the ability to adjust focus in reading written work-related documents, video production, and text. Acute hearing is required when operating video and audio equipment and production.
Mental demands: While performing the duties of this class, the employee must be able to use written and oral communication skills; read analyze, and interpret data, specifications, and documents; learn and apply new information or new skills; and interact with City staff, management, and the public.
Work environment: The employee works in an office environment with controlled temperature settings. The employee occasionally travels to different worksites for events and assignments. May work outdoors and be exposed to variable weather conditions, loud noise, and bright and/or flashing lights.
