Definition
Under general direction, is responsible for leading and participating in the work of performing source water protection activities and for monitoring and securing City watershed properties; performs related duties as required.

Serves as a lead worker for an assigned shift and/or trains personnel in patrolling methodology and safety, public relations, source-water protection activities, and report writing/fact finding procedures;
Participates in source-water protection activities including meeting with landowners adjacent to City property in order to resolve encroachments and secure land stewardship agreements and investigating pollution sources as necessary;
Identifies hazardous, unlawful, and unauthorized use of City watershed properties by patrolling land and water areas with City vehicles and boats, walking property boundaries, and securing facilities and equipment;
May perform light corrective and preventative maintenance on City vehicles, boats, and water-analysis instruments to ensure safe and efficient operation;
Responds to public inquiries concerning the utilization of City watershed properties, the location of City property boundaries and easements, and applicable laws and regulations;
Coordinates activities conducted on watershed properties with local law enforcement agencies, emergency medical services, and other regulatory agencies;
Monitors public utilization of City reservoirs, park land, and associated facilities to ensure water protection, public safety, health, and welfare;
Explains and interprets applicable regulations, rules, policies, and procedures to staff and the public;
Assists with the creation, development, and implementation of public education and outreach programs;
May testify or provide documentation in legal proceedings concerning hazardous, unlawful, or unauthorized use of City watershed properties;
Leads natural resources and land stewardship management activities;
Utilizes GPS/GIS equipment and software to support natural resources and land management activities;
May assist in the performance review process.
Minimum Qualifications
Significant college coursework (eighteen (18) quarter or twelve (12) semester hours) in natural resources, environmental science, forestry, park management, wildlife management, or a closely related field, and two (2) years of field experience in natural resource conservation, protection, or restoration, wildlife management, or providing security within a park or facility. Substitution(s): One (1) year of additional experience as specified may be substituted for the required education.
Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
By the completion of the probationary period, must possess a valid Ohio Boaters Education Certificate.
Some positions may require possession of a valid Commercial Pesticide Applicator License issued by the Ohio Department of Agriculture.
Some positions may require possession of a valid Arborist Certificate issued by the International Society of Arborist (ISA).

The names of the applicants passing this administration of this exam will be used to create a NEW, OPEN COMPETITIVE, eligible list for this classification. The examination process will consist of a computerized exam weighted 100% covering Supervision, Reading Comprehension, Information Ordering, Problem Sensitivity, Water Safety/First Aid, Natural Resources, Communications, Customer Service, Outlook, Word, and Excel 2016/2019.
The exam is expected to be administered in August. Approved applicants will be notified by mail/email of their scheduled test date and time.
All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidate's name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and a pre-employment drug test.
