The Maintenance Tech II position is a journeyman level class in the Maintenance Technician series. The classification of the Maintenance Tech II position is distinguished from that of the Maintenance Tech I position by assignment of the full range of duties Employees at this level receive only occasional instructions or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the Public Works Department. This position receives general supervision from the Supervisor or Maintenance Tech III, and exercises technical leadership over less experienced Maintenance Tech I’s and laborers. The Maintenance Tech II position is typically filled by advancement from the entry level Maintenance Tech I position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Inspects and/or repairs Lift Station, belt press, clarifiers, meters, mowers, electrical systems and related lift station/plant systems at frequent intervals to ensure that all aspects of the systems are functioning properly.
Maintains a variety of records relating to inspections, maintenance activity
Ensures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use.
Drives trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment.
Operates heavy vehicles and equipment including jet truck
Utilizes operation and maintenance manuals and engineering data.
Install, maintain, calibrate and troubleshoot electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic and control devices.
Performs routine inspection and preventative maintenance of equipment.
Schedules needed repairs under supervision of Maintenance Tech III or Supervisor.
Performs assignments including cleaning equipment, washdown and general housekeeping.
Performs minor plumbing and electrical work at lift stations and/or treatment facilities.
Responds to emergency calls at any time
Repairs vandalism
Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
Services and repairs positive displacement, centrifugal, air lift and chemical pumps.
Repairs and services autosampler, pumps and tubing.
Performs preventative and reactive maintenance to belt presses, clarifier drives and other mechanical and electrical equipment for wastewater treatment.
Operates a variety of power construction and maintenance equipment.
Operates various grounds maintenance equipment.
Employees must respond to call outs, work over time and emergency operations.
PERIPHERAL DUTIES:
Serves on various employee or other committees as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: (A) High school diploma or GED equivalent, and (B) Any equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Mechanical and electrical knowledge for performing repairs on lift station pumps and motors, knowledge and skills of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction and repair activities.
Skilled in operation of tools used for water and wastewater repair and operations.
General knowledge of construction and maintenance materials, procedures, and equipment with particular reference to water and wastewater operations.
Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time
Ability to work safely
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public
Ability to understand and perform written and oral instructions.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Valid State Driver’s License.
Must have at least two (2) years’ experience/education in electrical work.
Class C Wastewater Treatment License or able to obtain within one-year of employment
