Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role as the Executive Medical Director for thyroid eye disease (TED) you will lead the development and execution of Amgen’s global medical affairs strategy for our TED portfolio, in alignment with R&D and organizational priorities.
This individual will play an integral part in the cross-functional leadership for this disease area and will be a primary representative of Amgen’s TED commitment externally. This will include leading and managing relationships with opinion leaders (OLs), medical societies, patient organizations, academia and more.
This role may be remote and will report directly to Vice President for Global Medical Affairs, Rare Disease.
Responsibilities
Lead development and execution of the global medical strategy for key marketed and pipeline-stage TED assets
Lead change management efforts of the Global Medical organization in support of marketed and pipeline TED assets
Lead global external landscape shaping for TED in preparation for new market entry and expansion of existing TED markets by partnering with key OLs (HCPs, societies, patient organizations, etc.).
Direct and mentor key stakeholders to ensure effective external communication (e.g., clinical narrative framework, scientific platform, core content, congresses, and publications), evidence generation, medical education, and medical insights
Lead and execute internal communication, education and up-skilling of key medical and cross-functional stakeholders on all aspects of the disease, strategy, tactics, etc.
Recruit, build, develop and mentor the TED Medical Affairs team, if required
Oversee resources and budget allocation necessary to deliver on TED Medical Affairs priorities
Continue to enhance Amgen’s reputation as a science-based, patient-focused partner

We are all different, yet we all use our unique contributions to serve patients. The Executive Medical Director, Thyroid Eye Disease we seek is an experienced leader with the following qualifications.
Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate degree & 6 years of medical affairs experience OR
Master’s degree & 10 years of medical affairs experience OR
Bachelor’s degree & 12 years of medical affairs experience AND
6 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree (MD/DO/OD/PhD/PharmD) from an accredited medical/graduate school
6+ years of clinical research experience (academic or industry) in the treatment of TED, ophthalmologic indications, inflammatory diseases, or endocrine disorders
6+ years of Regional, Local and/or Global biopharmaceutical experience working for major multinational company in a matrix organization with demonstrated impact in a medical/R&D leadership role
Formal training in a related medical/clinical subspecialty (for e.g. ophthalmology, optometry, endocrine, surgery, etc)
10+ years of biopharmaceutical industry experience, with cross-functional role experience
Organizational leadership experience leading collaborations with external health care systems, integrated delivery networks, accountable care organizations, and/or payerer
Extensive knowledge of pharmaceutical product development, product lifecycle, and commercialization processes, including but not limited to, clinical operations, commercial, regulatory affairs, drug safety, and medical affairs
Extensive experience in shaping a new therapy area internally and externally, product launch
Experience in developing go to patient modules, patient identification, education
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills

The annual base salary range for this opportunity in the U.S. is $322,965 – $383,290.
