The Scientist, Global Beverage Applications will serve as the global technical lead for Beverage Category, providing Application expertise for multiple functions, regions, and customers and innovating in these segments by connecting insights to technology and identifying un-met needs. This role requires close collaboration with technical teams, business units, and global customers to foster innovation within the Global Beverage Category through leading research and development initiatives, creating, evaluating, and endorsing novel formulations and cutting-edge ingredient solutions. The Scientist will partner with customer teams, and connecting customer and consumer needs to break-through technology. The candidate will also work along with the group leader to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the team while further building capabilities.
Core Responsibilities:
- Build a deep understanding of category consumer trends, customer problems and unmet needs through close cross-functional collaboration with Global Key Accounts, regional category teams and global partners including Strategic Marketing and Insights. In addition, providing applications expertise for these teams.
- Translate voice of customer and key customer value propositions from regional category teams to technical solutions that make our customer’s breakthroughs possible.
- Manage global projects by planning, designing and conducting experiments/trials in the laboratory and pilot plant and conducting data analysis to develop clear conclusions and recommendations that support business decisions.
- Assemble internal expertise and securing additional resources for projects as needed. Developing relationships with project teams to gain alignment on scope and ensure projects are completed in agreed upon timelines.
- Complete technical project reports and presentations and providing project status updates, plans, milestones and outcomes to team and stakeholders as required.
- Support Ingredion’s IP strategy by staying abreast of technology environment (established and emerging technologies, market trends, IP landscape). Conduct prior art searches (e.g., literature, patents), proactively seek and pursue IP opportunities to protect Ingredion’s stake in new and promising ingredients and applications.
- Staying engaged with the industry information and developing industry relationships and networks within relevant professional organizations.
- Presenting work, capabilities and knowledge at key international conferences, training events, and customer meetings
- Build category formulation expertise and develop new formulation concepts leveraging ingredients and processes which can be applied globally. Leverage industrial expertise to develop and commercialize new ingredients and technologies grounded on customer insights.
Qualified candidates will have:
- BS/MS/PhD in Food Science, Food Engineering or related fields with 8+ years’ (3-5+ for MS, 0-3+ for Ph.D.) work experience in Food and Beverage Formulation/ Product Development, Process design and improvement.
- Experience in R&D and Innovation in Consumer-Packaged Goods (CPG) company is highly desirable.
- Excellent technical skills with the ability to act as the recognized global technical lead and Beverage category Subject Matter Expert (SME) within the Innovation community.
- Ability to lead and manage global projects independently and inform and influence decisions at all levels in the organization.
- Knowledge of plant-based proteins, fibers, specialty sweeteners, starches, hydrocolloids and other texturizers in food and beverage applications.
- Demonstrated hands-on product development experience and knowledge in Beverage category application and process segments.
- Flexible and adaptable, comfortable leading multiple projects concurrently.
- Curiosity and creativity with a customer-focused mind-set, ability to proactively inspire change.
- Analytical and critical thinker with excellent business acumen and strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to engage and build working relationships effectively with diverse stakeholders across functions and levels of the organization.
