General Responsibilities:
As a Senior Ecologist in Baton Rouge, Louisiana you will help manage projects in the Environmental Planning ecology group to ensure that work is executed on time and in accordance with the client’s requirements and within company policies, procedures and standards. Complete and/or review the preparation of proposals and cost estimates to clients to ensure proper scoping of services, availability of manpower and pricing to achieve desired profitability. Assist the Department Manager in the daily operations of the ecology group including staff training, development, and performance review, utilization of equipment and facilities, safety oversight, quality of services and work product, timely delivery of services and deliverables, and adherence to policies and procedure. Supervise ecological and natural resource field surveys such as wetland delineations and threatened and endangered species assessments from a senior level standpoint. Fieldwork with the team will be necessary at times. Identify and evaluate ecological risk factors and recommend risk strategies/designs to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations. Projects will primarily include managing ecological and natural resource field survey projects, and this may also include completion of other ecological services such as water sampling and monitoring. Responsibilities will also include participation in business development activities with the office leadership team to identify, develop, win, and execute exciting project opportunities and build and maintain client relationships. Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning.
Act as the Senior Ecologist in the Region for the Louisiana offices.
Manage projects from a senior level with the project managers in the environmental planning team. This includes training and mentoring group members.
Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
Implements technical requirements to complete client projects by directing and supervising field staff to sample, test and collect data and/or document site activities.
Responsible for preparing and/or reviewing federal and state waters permitting applications with agency consultation.
Responsible for developing and reviewing written proposals to clients.
Serve as team member and participate in meetings and communications with client pertaining to specific projects/tasks.
With support from the Department and Office Manager oversee and manage the success on projects of revenue growth, staff chargeability, project billing and collections, and project profitability.
Develop understanding and be aware of project-related risk. Be familiar with what could go wrong on a project and how to protect the Company. Be familiar with company risk policies.
Promote continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects. Monitor quality standards and practices.
Possess strong understanding of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
Possess skills to become Subject Matter Expert (SME) in one of more environmental/technical areas.
Understand and implement technical requirements to complete client projects by directing and supervising field staff to sample, test and collect data and/or document site activities.
Serve as an inter-disciplinary team member in meetings and communications with client pertaining to specific projects/tasks.
Perform site visits, field observations and field data collection in area of technical expertise.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Forestry, or related discipline and more than 10 years of experience in the practice.
Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
Ability to travel out of town between 10% and 20% of the normal work week.
Flexible work schedule, to ensure project timelines are completed.
Possess strong writing skills.
Attention to detail, note taking skills.
Ability to work on a team and build networks across the division and company
Preferred Certification:
Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) certification preferred.
