The Position
Friends of Ontario City Library Volunteer - Ontario City Library
Would you like to positively impact our community and support the library's mission by raising funds for library programs and services through book sales, fundraisers and donations? Join the Friends of Ontario City Library (FOCL) team with the Ontario City Library! The Friends of Ontario City Library team is seeking volunteers for bookstore operations and bookstore patron assistance. Volunteers will commit to at least one (1) 2-hour shift per month, preferably a minimum of one (1) 2-hour shift per week, for at least six (6) months. Volunteers assist bookstore patrons, process donations, review inventory and pricing, restock, and assist with online sales all while adhering and supporting the Library Bill of Rights and the Freedom to Read.
Volunteers may volunteer at both Ontario City Library locations Monday through Saturday. The locations and operating hours for each location are listed below.
The Ovitt Family Community Library
215 East C Street
Monday – Thursday: 10am – 9pm
Friday – Saturday: 10am – 6pm
Sunday: 1pm – 4pm
The Lewis Family Branch Library
3850 East Riverside Drive
Monday – Thursday: 4pm – 8pm
Saturday: 10am – 6pm
Friday & Sunday: CLOSED
This is a volunteer position with the City of Ontario. The City provides no compensation for the services performed by volunteers. Volunteers are not entitled to any benefits from the City, including but not limited to Workers' Compensation benefits. The City of Ontario Library is unable to assist individuals seeking placement for mandatory community service.

Examples of Essential Functions
The essential functions typically performed by the Friends of Ontario City Library Volunteer include the following:
Sort, price and process book donations.
Stock shelves and maintain bookstore inventory.
Help maintain the cleanliness and organization of the bookstore.
Provide friendly assistance to bookstore patrons.
Assist patrons in finding books, making recommendations, and processing purchases.
Ensure a welcoming environment in the bookstore.
Qualification Guidelines
Must be 18 years of age or older. Must be willing to volunteer a minimum of one (1) 2-hour shift per month, preferably one (1) 2-hour shift per week; a minimum six (6)-month commitment is requested. Training will be provided.

Passion for the library and its role in the community.
Dedication to supporting the missions of both Friends of Ontario City Library and Ontario City Library.
Reliable attendance.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Supplemental Information
This is a volunteer (unpaid) position with the City of Ontario. As such, the City of Ontario's General Process for employment does not apply to this position. All volunteers are required to pass a criminal background check. Criminal arrest and/or conviction information as well as subsequent arrest notifications will be obtained from the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and/or Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
