USC University Advancement division is seeking a Developer, Data Insights & Analytics to join its Advancement Operations Services team. This is the team to lead the database reporting and data science within its central Advancement branch. The services offered by this team in central advancement are used by all advancement employees across the University. Reporting to Executive Director of Business Intelligence, the incumbent will develop professional-quality business intelligence, data visualization, and analytics content in support of University Advancement’s strategic priorities, make fundraising operations efficient, build solutions and provide insights to meet USC advancement goals.

The ideal candidate must be an experienced data and systems professional and can build productive relationships with a variety of constituents and stakeholders within the university.
Responsibilities:
Develop professional-quality business intelligence, data visualization, and analytics content in support of University Advancement’s strategic priorities, primarily using Tableau and data modeling via advanced SQL.
Contribute to the design, enhancement, and maintenance of high-quality data architectures that align with University Advancement’s business requirements and improve data reliability, efficiency, and quality.
Standardize and simplify business intelligence products and resources to promote shared data understanding and ease comprehension across University Advancement.
Consult regularly with colleagues and end users to identify and resolve gaps in the organization’s BI offerings and data accessibility. Disseminate use cases and best practices associated with BI tools and resources to the University Advancement community.
Utilize database query and scripting languages (such as SQL) to create data extracts and establish datasets from University Advancement data sources for use in content delivered to end users.
Maintain proficiency in industry standard reporting and data delivery practices and software tools through self-guided learning, training, coursework, conference attendance, etc.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The university reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

The annual base salary range for this position is $83,000 – $100,000. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

Minimum Education:
Master’s degree. Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
Minimum Experience:
2 years. Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum experience
Preferred Experience:
1+ years of experience with Cognos or similar report developer software
2 - 3 years of experience with SQL coding
2+ years of experience in Tableau, Power BI, or similar tools
Database management skills using Microsoft SQL Server, Salesforce, or other cloud databases
Salesforce experience is a plus
Practical knowledge of the systems development lifecycle and rapid application development encouraged
Strong problem solving and analytical skills
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
Salesforce experience is a plus

Minimum Field of Expertise: Biometry, Biostatistics or Statistics; mainframe computer and PC experience; experience with SAS, Epilog, BMDP, GLIM or SPSS.
