WHAT YOU WILL DO:
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer (Applied Biomechanics), you will conduct biomechanical and tribological research on next generation materials, processes and implant design. This role is hands-on and will involve responsibility for leading development and execution of cadaveric and non-cadaveric clinically relevant test models, as part of larger program initiatives in support of Stryker’s Knee, Hip and Mako product portfolios. This role requires close collaboration with cross-functional partners such as Product Development, Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, Design Assurance, and Manufacturing to deliver high-quality products to market.
- Lead the development and execution of clinically relevant test models for next generation materials, processes and devices.
- Lead and execute test method validation to confirm suitability of developed methodologies.
- Coordinate and conduct physical testing including test fixturing, set-up, equipment operation, data collection and analysis.
- Create all necessary engineering documentation for inclusion in the Design History File (DHF) such as protocols and reports.
- Work with cross-functional partners to develop testing publication strategy and lead writing and submission of abstracts and manuscripts.
- Contribute on cross-functional NTDP and NPDP teams to develop next generation technologies and devices.
- Regularly meet with cross-functional partners to align on testing strategy and timeline. Refine and communicate changes to strategy, where needed.
- Become familiar with relevant aspects of competitive technologies in order to develop innovative solutions to solve / satisfy customer needs.
- Interface with clinical advisors to gather input for evaluation and development of new technologies.
WHAT YOU NEED:
- Bachelor of Science or higher in Biomedical or Mechanical Engineering or applicable technical field.
- 3+ years of experience with lab-based and/or analytical research in the medical device industry, or equivalent.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated understanding of engineering principles in the areas of biomechanics and tribology.
- Proficiency in CAD; Creo preferred.
- Proficiency in Computer Programming; Matlab or Python preferred.
- Demonstrated understanding of New Technology Development Process (NTDP) and New Product Development Process (NPDP).
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to complex discovery-based research initiatives from concept through final recommendation.
