Position Summary
You will be working as member of the Plant Design Stress Analysis or Mechanical Specialty Analysis Group designing and analyzing complex equipment and piping systems. You will be preparing design documentation, performing calculations using advanced engineering software and inelastic analysis methods, and preparing specifications for complex piping and equipment in accordance with the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC), Section III, Divisions 1 and 5. #LI-SNH
Major Responsibilities
- Represent Bechtel during meetings with clients, ASME certifications and audits with a specific focus on Division 5 analysis.
- Perform complex system BPVC Class 1, 2, and 3 (Division 1) and Class A and B (Division 5) stress analyses using FEA software to produce calculations and certified stress reports for equipment and piping, as well as perform reviews of FEA and other submittals prepared by vendors.
- Resolve technical issues related to the design and discuss them with other disciplines, groups, suppliers, and the customer.
- Be the company expert in creep range elastic-plastic analysis and Division 5 applications.
- Interface and coordinate with other engineering disciplines in the development of the design.
- Support the production of the layout drawings. This may be performed as an individual contributor or leading other engineers.
- Prepare reports and studies in resolving open technical issues related to the ASME BPVC Section III design.
- Ensure work is performed to the project’s quality standards for nuclear facilities while executing to the schedule.
Qualifications and Skills
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical or civil engineering (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.
- Related experience includes, but is not limited to, the design and fabrication of ASME Div. 1 Class 1, 2, and 3 piping or equipment, experience with high temperature piping & equipment, and experience with ASME Code Design Calculation development.
- Professional Engineering License.
- Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards; particularly analysis and fabrication of Section III, Division 1, equipment or piping (all classes), and ASME B31.3 and B31.1 applications to high temperature piping design (Division 5).
- Experience using FEA analysis software (such as ANSYS), particularly in the inelastic and creep regimes.
- Thorough understanding of piping analysis; specifically structural, thermal, dynamic (e.g. seismic modal, response spectra, time-history) and high temperature analyses.
- Experience working with procedures employing quality assurance programs such as ASME-NQA-1, MIL-Q-9858A, or ISO-9000.
- US Citizenship.
- Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
Minimum Qualifications
- Two-years' experience in high-temperature design with metals operating in the range where creep behavior occurs.
- Broad knowledge of the application of Mechanical Engineering design principles.
- Possess the legal right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), work well with others, and flexible.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced studies in Engineering (Mechanical or related).
- Experience producing piping Class 1 & 5 design calculations and certified stress reports.
- Knowledge of ASME Division 5 and required analysis & design calculations.
