The name 367 Garage reflects HP's history and vision. 367 Addison Avenue is the address of the famous garage where Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard founded HP in 1939. The garage is now a historic landmark and a symbol of HP's culture of innovation and entrepreneurship. By naming its incubation group 367 Garage, HP honors its past and looks forward to its future, where GenAI will enable new possibilities and experiences for people and businesses around the world.

The Director, Hardware Engineering will lead the HW R&D function for next-generation form factors enabled by AI and advanced interfaces. This role reports to the VP of AI in HP’s 367 Garage Group within HP’s $30B global compute division. In this role, you will collaborate with Product Management, Marketing, and Sales.

Optimal background includes:

  • R&D leadership of multiple global launches of consumer electronics hardware and software intersecting AI/ML and computer vision
  • Startup background including developing first MVP and multi-country scaling
  • Leadership across direct and indirect global teams
  • Has contributed to company-level strategy development
  • Executive communications at board/CEO level and as external spokesperson
  • Deep expertise in firmware development, with proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++ and familiarity with real-time operating systems.
  • Lead the development of firmware, ensuring code quality, reliability, and performance. Experience in firmware development for AI accelerators, optimizing performance, and power efficiency.
  • Strong knowledge of hardware design principles and methodologies, including schematic capture, PCB layout, signal integrity, manufacturability, and EMC/EMI considerations.
  • Experience with high volume, highly integrated, highly miniaturized electronic manufacturing processes
  • Drive the design and development of AI-specific hardware boards, considering factors such as parallelism, memory bandwidth, and interconnectivity.
  • Establish and maintain strong partnerships with OEM and ODM partners, collaborating on product specifications, design reviews, and manufacturing processes.

  • Mentor and develop the hardware R&D team, staying abreast of emerging AI technologies, providing guidance, training, and professional development opportunities to foster growth and expertise in AI hardware technologies.
