Job Abstract

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer II to support the Undersea Warfare Systems Group.  The engineer will work on complex equipment systems and subsystems, demonstrating competence and creativity by working in areas that involve developing new concepts and uses of hardware/software programs.  The Electrical Engineer can look forward to joining an interdisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and technicians working across engineering boundaries.  This individual will conceptualize, plan, and execute the design, development, and test and evaluation in the areas of Undersea Warfare Fire Control Systems.  They will design and develop improvements for subsystems and systems and/or equipment that significantly adds to its usefulness, reliability, and sustained operation.  The engineer will also develop or test new systems, equipment or materials that significantly add to the operability and usefulness of existing or new equipment/systems having new features.  Some work may require state-of-the-art design to take advantage of new concepts in the development of advanced systems:

• Assist in overall embedded electronic systems designs based on micro-controllers and/or single board computer and electronic components
• Develop block diagrams to decompose overall system into electronic and circuit subsystems and interconnections
• Printed circuit board (PCB) design of individual circuit card assemblies (Altium preferred), include schematic capture and PCB layout
• Test Newly designed circuit boards and sub circuits
• Documentation of PCB design
• Work with manufacturers (fabrication houses) for PCB manufacture

The Electrical Engineer II can expect to travel 5% to US domestic locations in Washington DC and Dahlgren, Virginia.  International travel locations include Taiwan, Canada, Japan, Brazil, and the Netherlands.

Required Skills and Experience

• Must have an understanding of electronics application development, design, and support
• Good working knowledge of circuit design architecture, serial communications, and interface requirements; electronic system development fundamentals
• Ability to analyze and resolve technical problems
• Can complete project with minimal to moderate guidance and be able to produce, analyze, and edit engineering reports
• Able to document electronics development efforts, change requests, and reporting
• Must have demonstrated expertise with schematic capture and PCB layout tools and common electrical troubleshooting tools; preferably Altium environment
• Can communicate effectively, verbal and written with team members and collaborate with peers
• Able to produce engineering reports of tasking accomplished and aggregate data to consolidate reports
• General working knowledge of computer systems

Desired Skills and Experience

Five years related experience with a bachelor’s of science in Electrical Engineering highly desired.

Required Clearance

Must possess a verifiable active DoD secret clearance.
