SUMMARY: The Secondary Supervisor of STEM is responsible for developing, planning, managing, supporting, organizing and implementing Mathematics, Science, and Engineering and Technology curriculum, instruction, and assessment for secondary schools and provides leadership for district-wide initiatives for math, science, and technology programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Curriculum
Assumes chief responsibility for preparing, coordinating, carrying out, and maintaining the curriculum development, evaluation, and revision for secondary math, science, and engineering and technology.
Monitors the implementation of the curriculum and its effectiveness through observation of practice and a system of local formative and summative assessments.
Assists in reviewing and evaluating the results of district-wide testing programs and recommends appropriate modifications to STEM curriculum.
Coordinates appropriate piloting and support of new or revised curriculum in the STEM areas.
Participate in Curriculum Planning Council
Supervision, Evaluation, Professional Learning
Plans and facilitates professional development in concert with building and district-wide professional development to math, science, and technical education teachers.
Promotes effective instructional practices and communication that supports high levels of instruction through the use of research-based best practices, effective classroom consultation and program evaluation.
Collaborate with coaches, curriculum coordinators, and department chairs and others within math, science and technical education to support instruction
Assist school principals in evaluating math, science and technical education teachers through informal and formal evaluations
Monitors district and school level data to determine trends and in turn develops and implements the most effective state and national student achievement goals.
Prepares narrative and statistical reports regarding achievement and growth in math, science and technology and provides support to administrators and teachers in data-driven decision making to improve student achievement.
Conduct orientation and in-service workshops for secondary mathematics, science and technical education teachers
Serve as an on-site resource person and facilitator for teachers and administrators concerning instruction and implementation of the mathematics curriculum.
Serve as a member of the TEAM Coordinating Committee for beginning and new teachers.
Serve on the district PDEC committee or subcommittee
Budget and Teacher recruitment
Leads a process for the evaluation, selection, and acquisition of instructional materials, supplies, equipment, and textbooks to support math, science, and technical education.
Assist in the development of a proposed annual budget relating to curriculum development and the instructional materials needed to support math, science and technical education in the secondary schools
Prepare necessary orders, inventories, budget requests and similar documents. Manage the Perkins grant and be responsible for the writing and management of grant programs.
Participate in interviewing and selecting new math, science and technical education teachers
Additional responsibilities
Attend relevant school, district and professional meetings. Attend Board of Education and Committee meetings as needed.
Assume responsibility for generating and identifying solutions to problems.
Attend meetings sponsored by the State of Connecticut Department of Education relative to position.
Performs such other tasks and assumes responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Teaching and Learning and/or the Superintendent of schools.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Sixth Year Certificate Minimum of five (5) years teaching experience Major/concentration or degree in mathematics and/or science Mathematics 7-12 certification (029)/Chemistry 7-12 (031)/Physics 7-12 (032)/Technology PK-12 (047)
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS:
Intermediate Administrative and Mathematics Certification
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff and the community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely in verbal communication. Ability to convey ideas clearly and concisely in written format. Ability to perform duties with awareness of, and to adhere to, all district requirements and Board of Education policies and the State of Connecticut Educator Standards.
